Frunk and Battery Question

Not criticizing, just curious. Does anyone know why the i5 doesn’t have a frunk?
I expected there to be one… Is it just because of the motor for the front wheels?
Also, is it a separate battery that powers the electronics and items such as the wireless phone charger? Curious if my use of those impacts range/drive battery charge.

I don’t know the reason for the lack of a frunk - the i4 was the same I believe - maybe it’s something about the ICE and EV platform in one body, but no idea.

Entertainment system, climate control, heated seats etc all impact your range, I doubt the phone charge puts a meaningful drain on the system though. Someone more expert than I can say what draws from the main battery vs the 12v battery.

The i5 models have a regular 12V car battery under the hood - you can see it if you look closely. The manual indicates that it powers the electronics and that the car will not function without it. I believe it is charged by the main high volt battery. If you look up "battery" in the manual you can find more details.

But the iX does not share an ICE/EV platform, and it also does not have a frunk.

LOVED the frunk in our Taycan, e-tron, i3 and I-Pace. Frunks are the best for picking up smelly Chinese or Indian Food We now have to use the 911 for food pickup

I haven’t really found a use for a frunk other than on my husband’s Lightning which has a truck bed and groceries would go flying. On cars, it’s a novelty item. Most are too small to carry anything significant. I saw a video that was looking at whether or not it could hold a small carry-on bag. Why not put it in the trunk? Maybe I could fit a purse, but I keep that in the car while I am driving. It’s not anymore convenient and it’s not a feature that was on my list of requirements for car shopping.

My son mentioned that the Mach E frunk is useful as a cooler when tailgating because they built in a drain plug.

There is simply no room for a frunk.

My guess would be that there isn’t a frunk because the suspension bracing would be in the way. But just a guess.

I’ve owned two teslas and very rarely used either frunk

There's really no space.
