HELP I'm so bad with metals (bakeware rust)

I have a typical pizza pan and it rusted. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I'm still using it by lining it w parchment paper or tinfoil so it doesn't touch food, still, wondering if I could make it better? Do all these bakeware rust as I can't seem to find a metal pizza tray that doesn't. Do I have to go to town on it using metal wool? TIA.

Are you seasoning the pan with oil?

What the hell is it made of? I have never had any bakeware or cookware rust.

I might be wrong, as I'm no chef, but I don't think that's rust. It basically looks like every pizza pan I've ever seen aside from that it hasn't been cleaned well. Toss it and go by a pizza stone.

But what happens when he sees the brown and black stains on the pizza stone? Rust?

... And use parchment paper. Your pan will last forever and you won't have to scrub it.

get you a nice cast iron one, but make sure to "season it" before using it the first few times and it will last for ever

I never knew to 'season it' w oil. How often should it be done?

Most of the stuff is discoloration but the thing on centre/top area is fresh rust after I washed it.

It's cheap but I don't want to keep replacing these pans if I learn how to properly care for them. Believe it or not this one was silver color when new.

That's another thing, I ALWAYS line it w paper or tinfoil, so the pan just discolored on its own, not because it came into food contact.

Dudes… 😄

I should've worded it better perhaps but just shocked there's rust after wetting/cleaning it. Ya, the discoloration is not desirable but I'm not overly concerned about that, although it's unsightly and I wanna get rid of them if possible.

Good luck, however, I would simply toss it and buy another. It's worth my $3 not to waste my time cleaning it as it will only look like this again soon.

Pro-tip: At my last place, I had a liner made to fit the bottom of my oven out of 304 stainless that caught all grease, spillage and other food debris. I simply emptied that tray every couple of weeks. Because of this, I stopped using my pizza pan and just lay the pizza on the middle rack....well, that and the fact that it was a stone versus a pan and I dropped the stone and broke it. Either way, no pan - no clean!

Looks like a copper pan to me which does not rust.

If not, suggestions have been to throw out, buy a new one, and line it for the cook. Why not just line the old one with parchment and save time and money? More time for pizza I say. With good beer.

I bought a griddle and found out the hard way about seasoning. You can use shortening, grapeseed oil, bacon grease, or Walmart sells Blackstone griddle seasoning. It's all cheap but it helps to keep things from sticking, rusting and also makes cleanup a breeze

Anyway, like I said in my title, I'm clueless re this so thx very much to you guys w the useful tips. I never knew about *seasoning*....crazy.

I've actually replaced this several times now, so unless it's toxic/dangerous, I'd rather save/fix it instead of buying yet another one.

I actually cook my pizza on a stone with my Weber grill outside. It comes out really crisp and tastes better than being made in the oven. You may want to try that one day.

I do the same but on an egg. Get super hot and I can do those neopolitan style pizzas in just a few minutes.
