Tesla Driver takes a nap using Auto Pilot while doing 140 km/hr
Too crazy not to share, from our friends north of the border.
I'm not sure I could let myself sleep behind the wheel (if I owned a TESLA), interested to hear people's thoughts who actually have them or have at least driven one enough to have an opinion. Do you/would you take a five minute snooze on purpose if on the highway? How about reclining the seats and taking a full blown nap until you arrived at your destination!? Wondering if these systems are considered safer on long straight highways (with high speed) or navigating through stop lights in a city (with slow speeds). Or is all that irrelevant? Since it's considered a semi-autonomous vehicle, obviously any form of sleeping is not recommended. Interested to know where that line is since anytime you take your hands off the road, you are risking an accident... whether your reading the Wall Street Journal or have your eyes closed. Police charge Tesla driver who was allegedly doing 90 mph while asleep https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/18/busin...ntl/index.html |

Tesla’s semi-autonomous system is “ok.” I certainly wouldn’t trust it enough to take a nap in the car at any speeds. The bigger issue for me is I have even less confidence in the program’s defensive driving capabilities. It seems like at least 1 out every 20-30 cars on the road is piloted by some kind of moron with seemingly unpredictable driving behaviors.
You’ve got to have some balls or be naive to be doing that in the car |

I feel like emergency braking assist is a good feature that will save a lot of nose to tail accidents, but above that I feel that other assistance will provide a false sense of security until it is full level 5 - ie I can drive to a pub, get completely shitfaced, then sit in the back seat with the car driving you back home.
Everything in the middle just makes no sense to me at all.

Agree. People think Tesla’s system is more than just a driving assistant, which is why stuff like this happens. But I welcome a future where I will be able to travel anywhere on my own while doing anything I want.
