Mars lander finds bits of ice, scientists say
http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/space/0....ap/index.html
FAILED Why spend millions of dollars and send a fucking space probe millions of miles away? I can find ice inside my freezer!

It means life was possible at one time. All you need it water and sunlight.

And water there means we can be there. If it's verified, it'll be a major, major step forward to getting us off this rock.

We will try to land a person on Mars by 2030...it will cost over $100 billion of our tax dollar and some more form investors to do so. Over half of the spacebrobes sent to Mars failed and has crash landed...many will die on this journey before we successfully land one on there. I really don't know how they plan on colonizing Mars...the planet is too cold and the terrain is too rough for humans to survive. They have absurd theory of thawing the planet via Terraforming; dumping greenhouse gases into the atmposhere and heating up the planet. Same thing we do on Earth that causes global warming. We might as well live underground here on Earth it'll be much easier that way.

sorry OP but you fail...it's science for Christs sake. Discoveries, experiments, observations have brought us to where we are today.

Where are we today? Is today's science yesterday's witchcraft?

It'll be funny that if one day we do colonize Mars, move the people over there...put living quarters up...the day we cut the ribbon ceremony, a huge asteroid or comet wipe out the planet....people on Earth laughs..."haha glad i stayed behind"

OP...you'd be quite naive to think that this discovery has no significance towards our space exploration efforts..
A lot of things in our history have been intially thought impossible, only to become well-known and the norm later on. You should have some respect for the scientists that make our world a better place - the same people who you will depend on once global warming sets in hard. |

I love science and everything but I kind of aggree that exploring space is a big waste of time with the exception of astroid watch and satellite technology. I mean, I think its mostly a political face thing, like I can do it and you can't that's why my dick's bigger type of deal. 100 billion to land some dude on mars and stick a flag there? why not spend 100 billion on renewable energy research and development or something. What has landing on the moon done for us in the real world that benefits us besides the fact that we can say we did? |

today's science is comprised of all the work done by yesterday's science

The significance of going to the moon was like a baby step. How safe would you feel to travel straight to pluto on your first trip? It's way too dangerous. This is a means of discovery. Sure, it's slow, but the science today has taken us many many years to discover. For example, the structure of DNA is quite obvious to many of us now, but it took watson and crick a lot of studying and a bit of robbery to get to the real structure. That's over 100 years of work just to discover what makes you, you. |

By the way, I read that article on space.com about the melting ice theory. They didn't find any water in the oven chamber, but they deduced that frozen water (ice) was in the photos. I'm just a lowly lay person, but would someone explain to me why that frozen stuff couldn't be some other organic frozen liquid? (e.g., methane); probably has something to do with melting points/freezing temps. I also presume that there's no chance that any of the propellant from the lander could be below it and could have frozen in the cold Mars environment.
