Places to go in the Caribbean
My brother and I want to vacation in the Caribbean in the beginning of July...so far I could only think of one place, and I really don't know anything about it, lol.
As far as the actual island, pristine beaches is always a plus, with a lot of outdoor type things, like snorkeling, diving, jet-skiing, mountain hiking, waterfalls, etc. A place with a rich culture would be nice too. The only place I've considered so far was Virgin Islands - St. Thomas. I've already been to Bermuda, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas (LOVED the Bahamas). Was also considering Jamaica (my dream vacation), but word of mouth is that it is VERY crime-ridden. Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. |

Which Bahamian island did u go? I'm assuming you went to Nassau- just like most people. However you should also try going to another Bahamian island called, "Great Exuma"...Go stay at the Four Seasons there...white sandy beaches, infinity pools, a more private and romantic place so maybe u and your bro should take some girls along Barbados is also a great place- almost like Nassau, Bahamas however there's not much of a nightlife there. I wouldn't suggest going to St. Lucia or Jamaica. St. Lucia wasn't a very nice place to visit. It was quite dirty in general and not very safe. Jamaica wasn't that much better either. Be careful as soon as you get off the airplane cuz it's pretty dangerous. However it's safe as long as you stay in the hotel compound. I would suggest the Half Moon Resort if you decide to go to Jamaica.

I been all over the Caribbeans, my fav so far is Cozumel, water so green and blue...it was sick...
Try St. Thomas, and go to Sapphire beach, not too many people, there are coconuts you can pick, smash it open, pour rum inside and chug it...pass out on beach, wake up with skin cancer

I went to Nassau, Bahamas..water was crystal clear
Cozumel is out just because I don't wanna go to Mexico...Barbados sounds great...I'll look it up. St. Thomas is still appealing to me because of the beautiful scenery. Thanks for the suggestions. St. Thomas looks gorgeous: |

I would stay away from St Thomas. I was just there last year, too many rude people. Dirty too. I would stay in St John and just day trip to St Thomas. Either that or stay in the British VI and day trip to the US VI.

+1 on St. John, especially if you want to get away a bit and have secluded beaches almost to yourself. I have to disagree about St. Thomas having rude people, I experienced the complete opposite. St. Thomas has some great little restaurants too. Overall, it's going to be HOT!
Also, if you stay in St. John or another of the smaller islands consider renting out a villa as opposed to a hotel. Villas are similar in price (sometimes cheaper) but much more convenient in a lot of ways. |

Yes..so true. St.Thomas has great shopping during the day, but you better go in lock down mode at night. St Thomas don't get me wrong has some nice spots but it is just to crowded and commercialized. If you want to stay in the USVI St John is the way to go. Not crowded, absolutely the best non crowded beaches crystal clear water (pretty much a standard anywhere in the Caribbean) and not too many people. You can always take a boat back to St.Thomas to shop during the day and stay on St John...my two cents

Ive been to most of the Carribean Islands and have always like
St. Martin/Maarten the most. The food and shopping are tops and the beaches are crystal clear. I would stay on the french side (nicer beaches and resorts) and hit up the dutch side at night. |

its true. st.maarten is really one of the best places to be, aside from the cayman islands. Trinidad is the best because american money here goes a long way, and we really do have everything. you wouldnt have to worry about the horrible traffic congestion like in st. maarten, where they only have one main road around the entire island. cayman islands... its just to bloody expensive!

Turks & Caicos!
Great snorkeling, scuba diving, etc... Can feed schools of angel fish by hand while standing in 3 feet of water. Great experience if you have kids. http://www.turksandcaicostourism.com/ EDIT: Just re-read that it is you and your brother... May not want to go to feed Angel Fish together... Still a great place...

Going to St. John!! Woot! Booked the plane tickets today.
Plane lands in St. Thomas, and I guess a Ferry ride to St. John. I'm excited/nervous all at the same time.. We'll be there for 7 days, which I think is enough time.. |

St. Thomas is junk. Stay away from the USVI. The BVI (British Virgin Islands) are far superior. Virgin Gorda is very nice, as is St. John. Peter ISland is the best for a quiet, secluded get-away.
