In NL the Asian community(Chinese restaurant owners etc) tend to drive BMW's Benzes & Audis too.

It is a legitimate question. If there is a disproportionate representation of a population segment, it begs the question. Lets say that 5% of the US population is Asian American, but 20% of the BMW owners are Asians (completely made up numbers). Well, then it would be interesting to theorize why?
My theory is that Asians are usually more successful, and in the higher income brackets and therefore will be overly represented in the luxury car segment, not just BMWs. There are a certainly a lot of Asian Americans on this board. But that may or may not be a true representation of BMW ownership, just this board. Stereotyping gets a bad rap, but it is usually an exaggeration embedded in some shred of reality.

Asians are overrepresented in certain high-income occupations. I think that many Asians would rather get a European car rather than an Asian one. In fact, older Asians will often exercise "residual nationalism"...my parents and several of their friends who grew up during WWII and Japanese occupation would never buy a Japanese car. (Still I see lots of Jewish guys in Mercedes...)
Younger Asians may be more interested in European things. Perhaps it seems cooler for Asians to be interested in Euro things and for Caucasians to be interested in Asian stuff. If you go to a Caucasian's house, and he has, like lots of bonsai and scrolls with Confucian wisdom, he's "broad-minded and deep". If you see that in an Asian guy's house... he's "ethnic". |

Around here, BMW's are mostly driven by white people, then asians second, maybe a close second. Now I'm sounding like a racist...

It's more of a competitive thing. The car you drive means what level of success you're at IMO. Of course, there are always those who doesn't care about appearances and put $$$ elsewhere ( like my dad, he was very successful but he loved Toyota cuz of the cost and cheap in the long run.) If you live in Silicon Valley, CA...it's all mix races down there and pretty much dominate by Toyota, Lexus, BMW and Mercedes.
i'm on the other hand in the later generations so like most of my cousins, I drive what I can afford.
