New 3g Iphone
So..finally..steve just annouced new 3G Iphone!
8G $199(Black)/16G $299(Black&White) Thinner, Apps friendly, GPS, Low price, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, more language choice, mobile ME, etc etc Coming 7/11 FYI AT&T informed us that anyone who bought an iPhone after May 27th will be able to swap out their handset with no additional charges for an iPhone 3G. What about everyone else? If you signed a 2-year contract with AT&T when the iPhone came out (which you pretty much had to), you'll have to sign another new 2-year contract to score a new iPhone 3G. The good news is that AT&T will allow you to overwrite your old contract with your new contract. In other words, you're just locked into another 2 years, not 3. iPhone do not require a plan if you are already an ATT customer.

What I'm really looking forward to is the huge sale of 1st version iPhones being sold in the next month before the release of the iPhone 3G. Perfect time to pick up a slighly used iPhone for around $100, unlock it, and throw in my Prepaid T-mobile SIM card into it (that I use maybe once a month, if that) and have WiFi for internet access when needed.... just to have a 'cool' looking phone
The $199/$299 prices mean that you have to lock into a 2-year plan with AT&T. |

No this is not possible, because the hardware inside is completely different.
You will get the 2.0 firmware update for free though.

I highly doubt that to be true. Just like every other time you buy a new phone, if you get the special price, you re-sign a contract. I'm sure the new iPhone will be exactly the same way.

Going from G1 to G2 iPhone will cause your AT&T plan to get replaced with the new plan, but it will not extend your contract per AT&T. Although the phones are cheaper, the unlimited 3G plan now costs $10 more per month.
