How would you feel if you had to go to a wedding...
...all by yourself? Well, this is the first of my friends to get married so I'm definitely going to the service. But it really is a coin-toss about staying for the reception, that's for sure. My invite was for me and a "guest"...
Huh....... I've been in a situation like this before where I was seated at a table all alone with complete strangers and it wasn't pretty... Gulp! |

You can always have fun with your friends and then find your date there
I actually haven't been in a wedding myself this age but that's what I would do... I should watch Wedding Crashers now

I'd bring a date or skip the reception, but then (except for my own) I hate weddings.
I can't believe I even went to this play once, I forget the name...it was like Danny and Donna's Wedding...only it was audience participation. Basically it was like going to a wedding where you didn't know anybody, only it wasn't a real wedding. (It even got worse when a guy got mad at me for dancing with his wife). |

Well weddings are a great place to meet a girl. Ive met once x bf at a wedding and my cousin just met a guy at a wedding 2 weeks ago. So, theres always the option of finding your date there. BUT, if this was a wedding where u only knew your friend, then i wouldnt go alone. But if your boys will all be there, and you know the family..etc. going alone aint so bad.

You should go to the reception. It will not be so terrible. Well, I am always comfortable meeting new people...even if its just small talk. No need to go there anticipating to hook up. Just go get some light eating...enjoy some booze, and make some small talk. Your friend that is getting married will appreciate it. And, if it is terrible...you can always leave after an hour or so.
with strangers is not that bad

Bring a friend you'll have fun with. If you choose to not go, make sure you RSVP that you're not attending the reception! I had 12 no-shows at my 170 person reception. That was over a thousand dollars flushed down the toilet. I was pretty ticked off at the people who did that. We respected people enough to invite them to a personal moment in our lives, and they chose to blow it off.

I was in my friends wedding solo (as one of the groomsmen) and I had a blast. I danced all night with some of the bridesmaids and other random women. Plus if its an open bar, how can you go wrong! It helps though at least knowing some of the people there so if the pickings are slim you have someone to talk to.

Hey, Sharp - how about just bringing a friend-girl with you so that you wouldn't be completely alone, have someone to chat with, and perhaps both of you can even court dates at the reception...

I say just wing it.. Play it by ear. When you go to the service, see how it goes from there.

Go to the reception. You said that there will be all stangers, right? Look for a lonely girl, have a couple or + drinks and go for her. If it works, great and if it does not your reputation will be safe. Win-win situation.

Slubu, you got the right mentality as Vaughn and Owens on Wedding Crashers
So you don't mind getting a Stage 4 clinger, eh?

sharp GO! Same thing happened to me while I was going through my divorce! Showed up to support my buddy getting married and all his friends (female persuasion) expressed interest in my new found "freedom."
Bottom line you have nothing to loose. Put yourself out there. You never know what'll happen; that's the beauty of it. Remember the risk vs. reward rule; greater risk = greater potential reward. If you're hang up is that you have a hard time mingling and having small talk, this is a PERFECT staging ground to put yourself out there. How often will you see these people again? So worse case if you bomb then it's not the end of the world. risk v reward bro! My .02.
