iphone speed affected by age of battery, is this true of ipads too? Or Macbooks?
Just wondering if my ipad air 2 felt slow after updating to the latest ios or was it the battery? It was starting to get to the end of the life for the battery and I could have checked to see if they would replace it for free but figured it was still going to be slow after getting a battery so I decided to upgrade.

You do realize that Apple openly admitted to purposely slowing down older devices with the updates and now there's an open lawsuit?
People are having their phones die even when it shows 20%. Great product and customer service for such a loyal customer base. Anything operating under the IOS is suspect. https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-slow...CAD-09-10aai5b

There is a report on Reddit where someone replaced their battery and restored performance.
As much as I'm an Apple hater, reading through the specifics on this controversy, it's a non issue. Apple did the right thing in their code to help extend the life of older hardware. People are scum and are blowing this out of proportion with some looking to try to cash in. I hope those ticks get their lawsuit tossed out. |

Most users knew the older phones would slow down. Maybe if Apple was up front about it, they wouldn't be face such a backlash. Phones aren't like appliances where they're supposed to last 15-20 years.

The reasoning behind the slow down has been explained. Yet there are opportunistic leaches who are looking to cash in on this. People should be thanking Apple for adding this code to extend the life of their phones. There's no free lunch but I shouldn't be surprised that people feel entitled.

My eldest son works in the tech industry and he advised me to replace my iPhone 6 battery, in fact he told me to replace it every two years. After the last IOS update, my phone had slowed down to the point of become virtually useless. Additionally, it had stopped connecting to WiFi, the WiFi button in Setting was grayed out, and even after multiple hard resets it would not connect. I had the battery replaced yesterday and the phone is back to original performance, connects to WiFi seamlessly, and is lightning fast. For the life of me I cannot understand why corporations feel the need to spin everything, most of us can detect spin from a mile away. Why can't Apple just be transparent, if I had been informed that I would need to replace the battery in my iPhone every two years at the time of purchase, I would still have purchased the phone - just be honest with your customers, IMHO, they would prefer that to the endless spin......

Good thing is, I have one of the 6s phones that qualifies for a free battery replacement. |

It should be, my battery in my ipad started losing charge and it was also getting slower, so likely it was throttling as it also runs ios and has the same processor as an iphone. It would shutoff long before the battery was drained, so the throttling didn't work.

Not officially mentioned as the media has focused on iPhones but I wouldn't surprised to see it expand...

I had been thinking it was just iOS 11. My iPhone 6s+ was still great on iOS 10 but has lots of pauses now.

Same here, my iPhone 6S was running great prior to iOS 11, now I notice significant delays and hiccups. Current main battery wear is at 13%, but I also run a smart battery case which has seen way more discharges to zero, which I think is also slowing down the phone as it priortizes it first. Just annoys the crap out of me that I have a phone I know is still powerful, but is being throttled due to an algorithm based on cycle count versus battery life percentage.
