Panerai watches
Anyone own a Panerai watch on here?
Its a dream of mine to own one. Ive seen a 351, 6 months old with all boxes/papers etc....for £4500. I have saved the money for it but am now getting cold feet!! The cost of servicing and repairs is a major concern once the warranty runs out..... Anyone in here own one or have similar thoughts to me? |

Its just the potential for high running costs after the warranty period that seriously concerns me!! |

I've got a few nice watches. My favorite watch, and my main daily for the past ~5 years, has been my Luminor Submersible. It's comfortable, reliable, can take abuse, and is understated.
Servicing is nice. Kinda reminds me of Rolex and Breitling. Just got mine back from it's first service. Complete movement service and polish was about $600. Cosmetic service might have been quite a bit more, considering they recommended a $600 bezel replacement. Wouldn't buy a watch solely off the warranty. You most likely won't need it. If you're carful, you could easily go over 5 years without servicing. Nice watches can pick up value over time. Some Panerai pieces are limited runs, might appreciate a tad bit over the years. Use chrono24 or Jomashop for pricing. |

Any automatic watch will need servicing every 5-10 years. That's just what comes with the territory of owning a watch. Expect a couple hundred bucks for a movement service

Man... I wish this forum had a watch sub-forum where stuff like this could be discussed with an audience of like-minded enthusiasts.

That broccoli cheddar bread bowl is a timeless classic. The crisp movement of the shell as it snaps into a nice chewy center, hinted with the aroma of perfectly aged cheddar accompanies the grassy notes of broccoli. 10/10, great product, worksmanship, and servicing is quite fair.

They are dead right now. I mean real dead. If you buy, make sure it is a like new used one at a killer deal. You will have it for a while. If is a buyers market on everything right now. I have sold three watches in the last few months. 2 went to Dubai and 1 to Italy. American market is dead.

I've owned quite a few Panerai's and the 351 was one of them. I just sold my PAM 372 and 569. They are great, durable watches that can take a lot of punishment kind of like the Rolex Sub.
I wouldn't use Jomashop for pricing cause usually the serials are not current and often the watch doesn't have manufacturer warranty but rather a Jomashop warranty. The Jomashop warranty will not use OEM parts if it doesn't have to. Typically the Panerai's start falling behind on time after 4 or 5 years and this is when it needs to be opened up and serviced.

Panerai have just put up their prices and the same watch is now £6500 from an AD. However, as has been mentioned on this thread, Panerai sales seem to have dried up a bit. The watch Im looking at is for sale for £4600, but Im pretty confident I can get it for £4200. |

The market for Panerai is definitely a buyer's market right now. The guys at paneristi had a chuckle over this How true it is I don't know but I have seen values drop on the resale side. Their limited editions are a joke, every watch can be considered a LE run much like an M3 can be a limited edition as in only X amount of cars are being made for 2015. Anyway, buy a Panerai watch because you enjoy/like it not for investment. Even the true vintage Panerai models have dropped in price. |
