Mental Vs Physical Job
Which do you prefer? One can be outside in the hot sun, climbing ladders, painting, hard construction etc. By the end of the day you want to do nothing but lay around.... or you could be crunching numbers at a desk and using all your mental capacity to figure out why your not reconciling or something isnt adding up. Meeting after meeting, having to be mentally sharp every day, staring at screens, head aches etc.

Im in Construction (Project Manager) and everytime I start to think I would much rather just be in the field putting in my hours and be able to leave the work at work, I have to help out with something somewhat physical and remember why I worked hard to get where Im at.
I did physical labor through HS and College and it was never fun to be physically exhausted at the end of the day. At least now when Im mentally exhausted at the end of the day, I can have a few drinks and im good to go. Generally, the people that want/prefer physical over mental havent had a truly physically demanding job. No one wants to be out in the field doing physically demanding work every day. |

Doing the physical labor on weekends reminds me just how cushy my controlled airspace is during the week. I drag my kid along with me, as motivation to stay in school.

I wanted to click mental but it somehow decided physical was what I wanted.
That's mentally retarted if you ask me. I am now physically pissed off since I can't change my answer. |

Mental. I did crap work in the oil fields of West Texas the summer after H.S. so I could bank some $$$ and reinforce why I was going to college and gong to work as hard as I could at it.

I think the grass is always greener.
I'm an accountant, so I'm indoors pretty much all day. I'm renting a mini-excavator for a weekend about two weekends from now and its pretty much all I can think about right now, can't wait to get out there and play with it (I mean, work to clear a section for the fire pit like I told my wife I'd do). I'm guessing the opposite is true if you are in an outdoor job. |

I prefer a nice mix. Don't like staring at monitors all day (or stuck in meetings all day) and don't want to be doing physical work either (went to school so I don't have to do this). However, I prefer to be on the move (interacting with clients, driving, some computer time, etc.).

When i'm stressed about work i often find myself envious of the lawn service guy i'm sitting next to at the light in the morning. You can see him talking to his guys in the cab and i think it goes something like.... "Alright guys, sun's out, beautiful day, we've got 9 clients to take care of today. I figure if we really get after it before lunch, we'll be done by 2:30 and be able to call it a day."
The best part about that is after he's done at 2:30, by the time 3:30 rolls around he's got his gear cleaned up and re-fueled for tomorrow's work so he can enjoy the rest of his day without a care in the world. But like Joekerr said, i bet there are times where he's sitting at the light looking at me in my M3 or Range Rover thinking something like, "man, i wish i would have studied harder to get that desk job." Or maybe not, maybe he knows he's got it made and is thinking, "look at that sucker who bought into the rat race. Pfft, as long as he keeps paying me to mow his lawn, i like him." I like a bit of both though. Maybe 60-40 mental.... Maybe 70 mental and 30 physical.... ok, 90 mental and 10 physical. I chose mental, yeah, definitely mental.

I almost purchased a 04 M3/6MT for $17K w/96k with service records back in 2011 but I chose the M5 instead. I rotated between the M5 and the more efficient 528e. Fun times.

3K miles? Damn I hope it had the 1500 mile service haha. I think being a delivery driver has it's pros and cons. Cash never hurts but constant short trips and starting your car at least 40 times a day sucks, though I was able to get off every other weekend. Another member on here had a Porsche in college for pizza delivery so I think he got us both beat.
