the cayman will outhandle any 911, and it's straight line performance is the equal to the 993 (last air cooled 911)
I just saw road and track got a cayman to 60 in 4.8 secs |

I would be able to get into the base model Carrera. I was thinking that I could pick up a CPO 911 for about Cayman money.
The car would be a daily driver, as my commute is about 8 miles in each direction. I need the ability to carry small boxes of stuff one in a while, for larger jobs, I have a truck to carry parts around in. How does Porsche stack up compared to the other brands in regard to Reliability? |

I'd get the 911. I think the cayman just has an old man look. Even on the new models, the way it's designed looks old and outdated. IMO. I like the newer 911 way better.
My uncle has a Boxster S, good midlife crisis car. ;D |

actually, i think cayman looks kind of like a downsized 911. i saw it in person at the detroit auto show and didn't like it at all. but they kind of look alike anyways. 911 is, of course, a lot more expensive, so i think it just comes down to how much money you want to spend.
i'm pretty sure both cars handle completely different so a little test drive would also tell you a lot which feels better to your liking. [pic. 1 - 911 carrera] [pic. 2 - cayman]

911 is way cooler than the cayman plus it has a backseat for kiddies (if applicable)

I would, but one is a work car I PILE miles on like crazy (and I need to look a bit professional in, while not looking like I make too much $$$) the other is for evenings and weekends. I was actually considering marrying the Cayman S since I love it so much |

I looked into buying a Cayman S, and here's my conclusion.
1. You don't buy a Cayman S because it's like a 911. You buy it because it's not. 2. You don't buy a Cayman S as something you pimp in on a daily basis. You buy it as a pure driving device that you take to the track on weekends. The Cayman's MSRP is fine, the problem is the option list. Porsche totally screwed up on that. I optioned out a Cayman S with basic cosmetic stuff that you used to get in every Porsche for free, and it reached $70k. I didn't even touch the ceramic brakes, PASM and Sat Nav. IMO, the best way to buy a Cayman S is to buy a stripped-down one with no options at all. You get more for less this way. Because you are not buying a daily driver anymore, you don't need the luxury anymore. And for that reason, a $59k Cayman S is no less than a $80k one (probably even better, thanks to the weight saving). And at below $60k, it's a better drive than any 911 of any generation. If you just happen to have $80k to blow on a P-car, don't, for god's sake, waste it on the POS 997 with the bored out Boxster M97 engine. Get yourself a proper 911 - a 996 GT3 with the M64. |

I just checked my dad's 987 S, and initially I thought that because of the unnecessary (not sure? Some people on Renntech removed it) plastic thing on the side vents. There's a hole there though, so I guess it is functional. |

Hi,
Here is a link to a review of the Cayman S by a UK program called Top Gear. It might help in your decision? http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...165&q=top+gear Personally I prefer the 911.

I'm done with Black for a while.
A white car is too Japanese for me. I already have a red car, I don't need two of them It will be a silver one. |
