case material - bronze

I've been looking for a new watch and one of them the case material is bronze. Most of my current watches are stainless steel, which have been very durable. I'm not hard on watches, work from home at a desk, but it is nice not to mark up a watch too easily. How is bronze as a case material?

TIA,
Pat

I have a bronze case Zelos Helmsman watch. I have had it for a little over a year now. When it came it was nice and shiny. Within the first few hours of me wearing/handling it the oils from my fingers began to discolor it, as it is supposed to. Now it looks fantastic, it has a very nice patina. I don't wear it every day, but a lot and it holds up very nicely. Plus it can always be polished if you wanted. I do bump it and it seems to be rather resilient.

I have a Helson Shark Diver in bronze and really enjoy the watch as part of my rotation. The bronze really does take on a beautiful patina as it is exposed to the elements. Many intentionally accelerate the patina process to get that "worn" look. If you want the shiny bronze look you can polish to remove the patina but most folks like it with the "aged" look. I do as well.... It really is an interesting casual look compared to most of my other watches which, like the OP, are stainless.

How are they as far as scratching? SS is very rugged, the only way I've really damaged one was when one went flying when I pulled a coat out of the car. Watch hit the concrete marking the case.

Thumbs up

I have a Zenton bronze watch.

Scratches appear to "heal" themselves, leading to some to call bronze a living metal. In actuality, the scratches, shiny at first, oxidize and take the same shade as the rest of the watch case.

I really like mine.

I have had no issues with my watch though as one of 6-7 watches I regularly rotate, it doesn't get extensive wear time. It has been as good as my SS watches but I've only had it for 8 months or so...
