Trading my 335i for an 08 S2000
Well I put my deposit down for a Chicane Silver 08 S2k tonight. They gave me a decent deal on trade in and a good deal on the S2000. I am a HUGE Honda fan and have always loved the S2000 (family owned a 00 Silverstone). I took the car out, it feels mad slow, sounds like crap with the top up..really a disappointing test drive..you can't push those cars when it's cold out.
But I do remember how much fun they are in the warm weather. Sure my 335 would whoop its ass in a straight, but the S2k is just a little race car. Please feel free to give me your thoughts good or bad, but be nice..i'm a sensitive guy I did think of a Boxster but it is out of my budget and I don't buy used cars. Here's what I can think of Pros Better handling Good looking car IMO Top down driving!! Honda Reliability Cheap ownership costs Cons Inferior quality Slow-er No Creature comforts No torque lol impractical I do have a 2007 Fit as my DD Thoughts? EDIT: Cancelled my order, don't want the S2k. Last edited by mmm def; 02-23-2008 at 06:00 PM.. |

So a Honda Fit and Honda S2000. Fair enough...you get great handling and low maintenance.
You could probably drive the S2000 hard...for 300,000km without doing much. I'll bet the 335i will have more little annoying problems... |

S2000 are fun cars. Perhaps one day ill get one used.
next car i get will be a roadster, around 2010/11. Either the next gen BMW Z, Boxster, or a new/used S2k. |

Right. It's not all about the straight line. I personally love the S2k's as well and if you're that type, a nimble car would definitely be at my list of excitement when it comes down to cars.

Look at my sig.... Former S2k owner then went to a 330 E90. Now with an M Coupe. The best of both worlds IMO! Congrats on the S2k. I looooved my car. One of the few cars I would own again in a heartbeat. The M coupe's engine was too much of a lure for me though.
Congrats and check out the good folks on s2ki.com. Really active and friendly forum.

I had an 02 S2000 for two years. I have a 350z Vert now for my top down days.
The S2000 was great, but I got spoiled with torque and driving one now feels no different from a Civic. The top is still annoying to put down as I have to reach to the passenger side. The car's design is over 9 years old, the 350z is only 6. 5 for the roadster. The no navigation option, and its hard to install since it is a single din with a door. The car doesn't sound remotely as nice as a 350z (esp with the top down). S2000s have crappy looking wheels since their offsets are so high, they also come with 17" stock. The 350z is 18". Power seats in the 350z and heated (option) which is great for top down driving. Can't think of anything else... |

i loved my s2000 and i miss it every day. a. if you learn to drive it properly. it's not THAT much slower than a stock 335. b. it handles infinitely better. c. you can drive the absolute piss out of that car under any circumstances and it will take it like a champ. the insurance is a bitch though. i'd check that before you sign the final paper. it's the 7th most expensive car to insure and it cost me $1460 every six months. where as my M Coupe is $705 every six month.

Just curious to see why you didn't just skip the 335i and get the S2k? I don't know how much they gave you for a trade in, but it has to be around the price of the S2000, right? I mean the car is 32-34K after tax, title, license.
The S2000 is no doubt a great car. I was close to getting one a couple of years ago. I was scared of when there were cases of shanked tops. I still want one to drive in the SoCal summer nights though. The car has no power below 5K RPM..but then again, it's a Honda..it loves to be revved. I do agree that the car is great looking. I would pick it over the 350z and Z4 for sure. |

Cancelled my deposit today for the S2k..because I drove a Boxster S. I'll probably start looking for a slightly used Boxster S in the fall.
I knew there was a reason i was depressed last night, and today I feel much better after deciding. |

Forget the Boxster, trade in for the new M.

I was gonna say, yea it might be more fun and feel racier, but you would be giving up SO MUCH that the BMW offers for the Honda, and the Porsche is definitely going to give you a lot of that back! Congrats on making a better decision! |

I can see wanting to get rid of the 335i if you wanted a top-down high-revving sports car, but it seems like an Z4 M Roadster would have made more sense.
