OK, I've been using an old backpack to carry my stuff when I go somewhere for an overnight or weekend trip, and that backpack is now pretty beat up and needing a replacement. I'd like to get an actual "weekender" type of bag that is better suited for carrying things on short trips. Below are a couple of options that I am looking at. Do you guys have any other recommendations for me to look at?

I have an old Jansport bag like the first one just above. If works fine as I use packing cubes so one large compartment with a front pocket is perfect. It's volume is about 2800 cubic inches and the nice thing is it has hidden straps so I can throw it on my back thru airports etc. Works great for weekends or 3 day trips and stows as a carry on. Used to travel for work and used the hell out of this thing.

Nice, this would go well with my current Victorinox rolling bag. It's a little big for carry-on though.

No, just looking for a basic, but durable carry-on size travel bag. How many of you guys keep a bug-out bag at the ready? Unless you live someplace prone to natural disasters, it seems a little paranoid to me.

I have used this bag for a few years now and looks just as good as the day I got it. Obviously it has aged a bit being leather but everything about it still works perfectly. I travel 4 or so days a week and travel internationally 15-20 times a year as needed and it has worked for all of those things.

I've been using this Oakley (kitchen sink) bag daily for over a year and still looks new. Holds a lot of stuff and is comfortable. They make a duffle version too.

Personally, I'm a fan of backpacks. Although not necessarily what you are after, the Blackhawk Titan backpack has worked well for me. I got it earlier this year for certain work trips but have also used it for 2-3 day trips and have been quite happy with it. My only complaint is that the outer pocket didn't quite hold up to some rain when I was recently in Guam so my mp3 player was toasted....well, that and my dog thought the overmolding on the top handle tasted good... Otherwise, it is quite cavernous, has lots of pockets for organization, and has side carry handles so you could carry it like a duffle (kinda) if you wanted to. The downside is the whole 'tacticool' thing these days.
