Why lease a BMW when you can find a perfectly good 996T and purchase it?

Millennials...

I say why cheap out on a boring M2. Grab a gently used GT-R to impress your demographic.

Plus with the money you "save" not buying the BMW you can use that for maintenance and add-ons.

I'll up you one: I know of folks actually sharing leases with a friend, so that it becomes a bit more affordable to fake ball. One drives the car one week, the other drives it the other week.

Ford actually created a pilot lease program specifically for this type of sharing called Ford Credit Link.

http://fortune.com/2016/04/08/ford-g...easing-austin/

It did not seem to get any takers due to the restrictions though.

I'm 37 so my friends are waaaay past this stage but if one of my friends came up to me asking to do a share lease I'd probably have to go Chuck Norris and roundhouse him to the face. Then I'd have to unfriend his ass.

Ohh man - would lease Porsche GT3 with one or more friends. That's a good idea. Too bad porsche leases suck.

$150k I8 leases for $1300/mo

If a $150k Porsche GT3 leased for $1300, my username would be HomelessInGT3

Wife and her sister bought a house for the 3rd sister. BIL and I were requested to quitclaim so the girls could do it all themselves.

They held it for about 8 years. About a year ago they sold the house with about 5k profit (New Mexico) so I approached my BIL to buy an M6 vert. We could share it week to week.

Wives put the kibosh on that shit pretty quick. . .

Do you really think owning a $80k car making $5k a month is a good idea? I wouldn't even think about it unless you are in the 6 figure range with a super low debt to income ratio.

I don't understand whats the big deal if I can afford it. BUT anyways I just added another income stream so *crossing fingers* if things go the way they should. Then I should be able to get it by the end of next year pretty much for MY18.

What's your definition of affording something?

buy a Cayman GT4 instead of an $80k M3/4.

borrow your parents car for longer trips while you remain living with them for multiple years to keep mileage low. Borrowing becomes an issue? Get a cheap car to get you places.

If I am spending money I don't have I would rather pay $95k for a car that will be worth $60k than to spend $80k on a car that will be worth $20k.

Plan to lease? $800x 12 = $9,600
So assume you are paying a little over $30k in lease payments

Find this post in 5 years and see how much the GT4 has depreciated. Even given an economic turn, I see the naturally aspirated six speed GT4 not going down very much past $60k if at all.

This varies as well too

People will buy an M3 making $60k a year. Some people want to make $300k first.

You will only hear a spectrum of responses on a forum as everyone's financial beliefs are different.

My guess is that there are people here who put less into retirement than they do into their monthly car payments. For some that's fine because they don't care about financial freedom as they enjoy the hustle.

Renting vs. owning before you buy a car? Some people like the freedom of renting and don't desire to have a larger home, therefore, a 1 bedroom is plenty for them.

I am a firm believer of "financial freedom" thats why I work from my laptop and make money on the go. F*ck a 9-5 is how I really feel. No but really I plan to get the car next year after that I plan to get an apartment.

Before or after taxes? What's your debt:income ratio? Do you have any investments? Appreciating assets? 6 months of savings in the bank? When I was making $120k/yr before taxes I didn't drive an $80k car because I had a mortgage, I was contributing to my ROTH IRA, I was paying off all my debt and I was living life going on vacations. Can you technically make the payments? Sure. But you know what...

Quote:
friend is like the same age or 19 owns a 14 M5 lives with his parents and works at a supermarket idk how he got that to happen but it happen.
Not to be a dick, but this guy is a loser. Sure, he's got an M5... but i'm sure that's about it. You know the difference between winners and losers? Winners have what you want... their dream car, but they have other things too: a house, an investment portfolio, a retirement fund, extra cash to go on dope vacations, disposable income to not worry about how much the dinner check is, the ability to drop $1000 a month on a hobby, the ability to payback everything their parents did in the past by being the treater instead of the moocher. They don't live with their parents. Their houses are actually bigger than their parents. They treat their parents every single time they go out. They buy their parents cars, they pay for their parents to go on vacation with the family.

Can you do that and still afford an M3? If so... go right ahead. But if you're barely making $5k a month, come on dude, get real. If you had a house that was almost paid off and that was appreciating in value, if you had a good sized retirement fund, if you had very low debt I would say MAYBE, but you aren't even out of the nest yet. You have no assets, no experience in being financially independent, you lack the ability to support anyone but yourself (barely), and no business driving a $80k car. If I met you in public and we started talking about our M3s and I found out that you live at home making $60k/yr, I'd probably try my very hardest to be polite on the surface and not say anything disparaging. I'd be very, very polite.
