Major winter storm overnight in Chicago. Waking up to about 16 inches of snow this morning. How long until spring?

$400 looks like a great deal.

My neighbor just earned himself a batch of cookies. Love it when people with plows like to go out and play in the snow. He did our whole street.

Went for a quick jaunt yesterday to our little lakeside cafe on the cruiser bikes. Started at 64 degrees with sun setting but after she went down it was a brisk 58! BURRR!

Loving a nice cool winter. Today is sunny with a high of 66F. When I go for a brisk walk tonight at 10pm it will be a cool 52F.

How far from the lake are you? We only got maybe 5-6" of snow by me.

Found out from my wife that the pipes burst in our remodeled basement.

Now I get to come home from my trip and go live in a hotel until I get things sorted.

I've got to undo most everything I did in the basement to fix the pipes, figure out how to keep it from happening again, then re-do the remodel.

This? Sucks.

At least the breaks were on the side of the valve I could shut off (although I apparently still have a little bit of a lake).

Sigh.

is your basement heated?
insulate your pipes, shut off any lines that feed to exterior hose bib/spigot

i just moved in to my first house, one of the exterior hose bib has a leak, slow drip. At one point i had a glacier right up to the tip of the hose bib. I cant find shutoff valve to repair hose bib, replacing the washer inside. i dont have a basement.

We just got above freezing since around 3pm on Monday. That may not seem like much for everyone else but that rarely happens in NOLA. We broke a 122 year temperature record yesterday. Ice on bridges this am and several accidents around they city.

That sucks. Can't you file an insurance claim for it?

And being NOLA, supposed to get close to 60 this afternoon! We have our seasons in a day or two...

I don't know. Sounds a little chilly. That could be windbreaker weather in the morning.
