I was snowboarding when I was 18 years old. I had attempted the Olympic Ski jumps at Vail Colorado and I had far overestimated the amount of speed needed to clear the equal angle landing spot. The tip of the jump was sharply up-sloped, so instead of eating it face first, I leaned back and unwillingly attempted a backflip/back layout---- which ended up sending me mach 5 off the kicker. So I overshot the landing by a good 20 feet (horizontally), and therefore fell for what felt like 10 minutes, and landed right on my hip/thigh 40ft (vertical) below where I took off from, only breaking 1 bone. *phew*

I wasn't wearing a protective back brace, helmet, spine protector, or any real protective gear... so I can be assumed that I am the luckiest individual in the world. I now have a titanium femur, bolts, pins, and hinges in me... although my leg is now stronger than ever, and I have full mobility with nothing holding me back except the occasional metal detector.
