In my glove compartment I usually just keep some dental floss and a pen aside from the normal paperwork. I also have a double walled vacuum thermos in the trunk with a flashlight, some pain reliever, contact lenses. That protects those items from the heat/cold. Also have a multitool somewhere in the car.
