That sure is one of my points. Also, no flash support, no point for web browsing.

i'd hit it. i travel frequently on non-business so it would by much easier to haul and do basics than a laptop. lack of flash really is a big killer though.

Ah, okay. I misunderstood you. This thing's pricing is lower than I expected. I would have payed $1k for a tablet that can run full OS X. Oh well...

what kind of tablet doesn't come with a stylus? It's too wide to type with thumbs, and there's no good way to set it down to type with your fingers on the home row, let alone tactile feedback to touch type. With a stylus and decent handwriting recognition software, you could hold the device with your left hand and write with your right, just like a ....wait for it...notepad.

And i would hardly consider them that heavy. Plus who in the world wants to type out extended messages on a tablet? |

i hate the iphone, but i use my blackberry for everything else. only problem is 3" screen vs nice and shiny 10" screen. once again, we go back to no flash on the ipad, which will probably ultimately prevent me from getting it. |

I'm not going to bother arguing in this thread, but I'll say that those who say it doesn't do enough or it's just a big iPhone really don't understand the product at all. Which is completely understandable since this is a new device category. It's not a laptop replacement. It's not a netbook competitor. A netbook is just a smallform laptop.
And it's not just a bigger iPhone. The iPhone has so many limitations because of it's size alone. If you looked at the apps in the demo, you'll realize that the iPhone is more of a shrunk down/limited version of the iPad. They are able to add so much more functionality and power into the iPad apps. The iWork suite was a great example of software that people would normally expect out of desktop-grade software on what is basically a mobile device. The iWork suite would never happen (at least not nearly at that scale) on the iPhone. This article really sums up how I think about the initial reaction on the web: A message to the Internets regarding the iPad: http://cruftbox.com/blog/archives/001592.html#001592 And this is a great article on why we probably won't see Flash on the iPhone/iPad (which I think is a good thing): Apple, Adobe, and Flash: http://daringfireball.net/2010/01/apple_adobe_flash

And what features is it missing from the iPhone? Multi-Touch? Check 3G? Check GPS? Check( on 3G models) App Store? Check ITMS? Check 16 GB storage?Check( up to 64 GB which is more then iPhone) No contract? Check( again better then iPhone) Able to pair with BT keyboards? Check( again better then iPhone) The only thing the iPad is missing is the camera and ear piece. No camera is a disappointment, but not a deal breaker for me. GPS is useless on the WiFi models as when you would be using the GPS, you most likely be out of range of any wireless routers to load the maps. |

I was reffering to the ipad sorry. But yes the ipad's gps works like the old g1 and g2 iPhones. It does not have an actual gps unit.

A-GPS is real GPS. It just uses cellular triangulation to speed up locating where you are until the GPS receiver has a lock onto your position with the satellites. And the only iPhone that doesn't have GPS is the original iPhone. The 3G and 3GS has GPS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-GPS |
