I was just reading David McCullough’s excellent book about the Wright Brothers, so although I know the bicycle shop was in Ohio, all the early flight experiements including the historic first manned powered flight took place at Kitty Hawk or nearby locations out on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, and of course the NC license plate proclaims “first in flight”. Funny to see both states going after this on their plate designs.

It is indeed! I think they both have a pretty good claim, each for their own unique events. The designing and building in Dayton and the flight at Kitty Hawk. Having spent many vacations there, it’s understandable why they chose it. I’ve never been anywhere that has better kite flying weather and beautiful views.

Superman’s birthplace is actually Cleveland, Ohio. Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster penned the man of Steel to life. Their story is quite the tragic one, as DC comics never really shared the wealth on the franchise and the men were basically penniless while DC made billions. The $20 fee for the plate goes to commemorate their work, and their foundation, that has some exhibits and statutes in the Cleveland area. Sadly no Marvel options are available 😂
