That's good to know. Thanks!

Does this mean I have to pick whether I want to use it on my Android phone or laptop? Does anyone use it on more than one device? I already installed the license on my Android app, but not sure if I can also use the same license to install on my laptop.

EDIT: Also, do I need to download ESYS separately or does it come with BimmerUtility? Do I even need it? I thought all the software I needed was the BimmerUtility (with license).
I ordered my license at the same time as the adapter. They sent an email with a software download link and the activation code. The link is to BimmerUtility-Install.zip which is the Windows installation. I selected Windows from the website. It says one machine, so I took that to be a single device.

I purchased them both at the same time too and got the email with license code. Only difference is before I downloaded the Windows app, I installed the Android app and added the license to it there. I may try adding the license to my laptop too.

Just got the new software update and read that Qlocktwo is a new feature. I’m confused because I’ve had it since Day 1 of pickup 2023. 🤷‍♂️

Aside from that, I appreciate the new Silent Mode. Definitely would like to see a silent option within each mode. Also even though this is not mentioned in the update, I feel like sound quality improved. It might be mental (like a placebo effect) but I feel like the mids are cleaner and bass is a bit thicker post update. Same songs sound better to me.

Interesting observation regarding sound. Which system do you have?

The biggest thing I noticed was the giant stop sign picture appearing. The notice said that they rolled out more road sign recognition because not all states get it at the same time. I always saw ‘no right turn on red’ but the stop signs are new. I had them on my old Mazda HUD several years ago. I guess it takes BMW some time to get them all mapped. This is a big country. The no right turns are on major roads with traffic signals and the stop signs are on rural roads. I figured they map major roads first and are now on the smaller roads.

I noticed that too. I have not gotten the update yet, but I have that clock available in my car.

Got my ENET adapter today from BimmerUtility. Will probably try the FA/VO edit tonight since my car still has not received the OTA update. I put the car in diagnostic mode today just to ensure I know how to do it. It worked (a message came up in the instrument display confirming it), but how is it different from the normal mode? What does it actually do practically speaking? Can we still reboot iDrive by holding down the volume knob for 70 seconds when in diagnostic mode?

I have the Bowers And Wilkins system. After listening again on my way home, It definitely sounds better. The reason I know is because I have a song in my library that would always “duck” during kick and bass parts. The compression in the mix was noticeable. Now that same song no longer ducks during those parts. I don’t know what changed, but I also updated to iOS 18 around the same time, so maybe that has something to do with it. Who knows. But I’m grateful for the improvements either way.

Quick update: I was able to connect to the car using the BimmerUtility software and adapter (I used the Android app and a WIFI connection). First, I backed up the original FA (the app actually did that automatically, so I just ended up renaming the backup file with a more specific name). Next, I unchecked the 5AP as others suggested and saved it to the car. No problems, or further prompts. Lastly, I backed up the new FA with an appropriate name.

I was shocked at how easy the BimmerUtility software was to use. Very cool. I did initially have trouble connecting to the wifi adapter with my phone. I'm not sure, but I suspect it may have been because I was also using my phone as the digital key when I turned on the car. Once I took the FOB into the car, then I was able to connect my phone to the wifi adapter with no problem.

I'm excited to get the new software update to see if the anti-dazzle headlights actually work. :-) Thanks to everyone in here who helped and provided information. I don't think I'd ever try something like this without the information I learned from these forums, and without others saying that they did it, and it worked for them.

Ok, I'm convinced. I just ordered a BimmerUltility adapter and software. I am wondering if I can also use it to decode the limiter. Since I ordered All Season tires they limit it at the factory to 130 MPH. But with Summer tires they increase it to 155 MPH. I saw on one of the screens that you can uncheck reduced speed limiter.

Did you have to install it using the license on your laptop, and then connect to it using your Android? Or did you just install it on your phone directly with the license code? I'm asking because it says only useable on ONE device.

I only registered my license on my Android app. I never used my laptop. I will probably try adding the license to my laptop today, just to see if it will work.

I installed the Windows version of BimmerUtility on my laptop today and registered it with my license. Seemed to work fine. I went to download my FA files from the cloud, but there were none there. I had to open the Android app again and tell the app to upload my files to the cloud first. Then, I was able to see and download them on my Windows laptop. Lesson: The files are not saved to the cloud automatically - they are just saved locally and you have to manually transfer them to and from the cloud as desired. Very cool.

Just to verify connectivity, I will probably try connecting to the vehicle with my laptop later today. I don't expect any issue, but a test will tell us for sure one way or another.

The Windows version of the app has a neat VIN Decoder which pulled up all my order info and some other stuff about my car just from me putting in my VIN. Screen below... It's interesting that although it recognizes my car as a USA region vehicle, it still refers to the paint color by the non-USA name: Fire Red Metallic instead of the Vegas Red Metallic for the USA market. I guess they figure it doesn't really matter because the lawyer's won't be looking into the VIN Decoder. LOL

The lookup for the color code value is not coming off the VIN anyway. VIN only has information about country of origin, manufacturer, model, body style, transmission, engine, production year, and production sequence number.

I installed it to my Windows 11 Laptop and it doesn't work. McAffee keeps quarantining the .exe file saying it's a potential threat. I don't know how to bypass it. I also installed it on my Android phone and it worked fine. Well, Seemed to since I don't have the adapter yet, nor a car to connect it to. But the software opens and allows me to register it.

I just confirmed that the laptop can connect and work with the car (in addition to my Android phone). I was able to connect with the laptop and see that the 5AP was indeed removed from the current FA on the car.

I suppose when they say the license only works on the first machine you connect with, perhaps they mean the first of each platform (Windows/Android/Apple).

AiredaleDad, you should be able to disable McAffee or tell it to ignore the particular .exe files it is not liking.

One thing I forgot to add... while I was connected to the car, I had the BimmerUtility (BU) software pull the report for the DTC (diagnostic trouble codes). I was surprised at how many items were in the list - I didn't count them all but they were in the tens (maybe 50). I should have saved the report. I ignored them all and figured the next time I have it in for service, the service department would let me know if there is anything I need to be concerned with.

Just curious if anyone else with the BU software has looked at the DTC function yet and if you found a whole bunch of trouble codes on your car too. When I glanced at them, none of them really sounded alarming so I assume they are "normal" or "expected" codes that pop up during normal driving.

Just out of curiosity, but are you able to "Clear" the error codes if you want to? Just wondering if the accumulation of error codes, however eventually causes the IDrive to start acting up, thus needing you to reboot iDrive. What kinds of issues were the codes showing?

Yes, you can clear them if you want to. See this page for more info on that part: https://www.bimmerutility.com/dtc-codes

I don't remember what the codes were, I just knew I didn't really understand what the meant so didn't want to change anything. Next time I connect to the car, I'll try to remember to save the report.
