Sounds like the honeymoon wore off pretty quickly. As the saying goes, you use your head when selecting a German sports sedan, and your heart when buying an Italian.

A long term test is always needed before people should recommend something that costs 80k+ to someone. It's hard to judge a car by just one drive as these guys found out unfortunately.
Sucks for the ones that ran and bought one based on their initial recommendation. On the other hand it just might be that they had bad luck with this one car. Anyone on here have one that they drove for a while and can chime in about if these issues are widespread on the Alfa? |

To be fair, like my GT350 experience.......they love the car, they just wish it was built by a company that cares about all around quality/reliability.

Already brought up in another post, but in any event it’s disappointing to see such a promising beautiful car have such a bad time just out of the gates for its introduction. It seems to be somewhat of a complete failure from a quality built stand point according to C&D.
But is it a complete failure, no I think not, it certainly caught the attention of BMW making them sit up and take notice, with a better product as well. I hope Alfa gets it back on track ASAP, competition is a great thing but unfortunately a not so great track history seems to still have a hold on them.

Disappointing to say the least. As someone who's owned a gen 1 X5, can't believe the alfa has as many issues as it does. Shame, but glad I went with the M3 in the end. Such a friggin beast while being headache free in comparison.

As I understand it, this means the Giulia is the quintessential Alfa Romeo. It’s both the best car you’ve ever owned, and the worst car you’ve ever owned

Hey, I had pretty much the same experience - or actually worse, with my 335xi. I had sworn off BMW and it took a long time for me to even consider BMW again until I picked up my m3 ZCP last year - especially when the dealership experience last time was crap and even though I purchased from a different location, it’s owned by the same person.

While everyone is talking about Alfa's, I had my 1st Alfa Romeo experience yesterday. Here is a link to a wee video I made of a bunch of Alfa's if anyone wants to see the models

Everyone seems to love the Alfas BUT everyone seems to have trouble with them for reliablity. CU ranks Alfas in its worst reliability category and that is based on owner responses.
Even if they gave Alfas as loaners, the hassle of going repeatedly to the dealership will get old. And, alas, they don't give Alfas. When I take my BMW in for service, I always get a BMW loaner and can usually pick the car type so I can use the loaner experience to try out different cars. I am reminded about the old saw on Jags. If you own one, you must own two...one to drive and for the shop. |

What's amazing is that it's so typical Alfa, actual mechanical reliability seems fine but the stupid electrics, software and general weird niggles drive you insane.

An improvement, perhaps? (Note this is tongue in cheek. An improvement yes, but still embarrassing that it happens in this day and age).

I just fixed the rear bumper on one at my shop. It is a beautiful car. Very nicely appointed and fun to drive around. I even said to one of my co-workers, if it wasn't for the terrible reliability I would definitely be interested in one. But after reading this article, it just confirms my suspicions.

Without reading the whole string, the thing that bothers me is that if it has to go in the shop, what I have been reading is that they don't provide another Alfa as a loaner...they provide a Fiat 500 or a Chrysler 300. UGH!!!!!
When one buys a luxury car, one expects a somewhat equivalent loaner. |

I think in a few years picking up an Alfa as a project car would be fun. They are the only attainable Italian sports car in a way. But you would need a have a reliable daily driver car.
