I'm sure that all of those old reel-to-reel B&W video tapes have rusted away to dust by now. I produced a weekly cable TV show about happenings in our town for three years when I was in high school, and really wished that I had a few of those tapes to watch nostalgically.
On the smellivision topic, I remember the smell like it was yesterday from unboxing a brand new Panasonic color camera and portable VHS deck with a shoulder strap when the school obtained one in my senior year. Keep in mind that blank VHS tapes cost $49.00 each at the time! This is the portable color VCR. It still needed a wired TV camera and battery charger that was almost the same size to do much less than an old iPhone can video today.....

Last month we had a spell of very dry weather where it hadn't rained for well over a week. We have new hedges planted, so I set up some sprinklers. I turned them on as we headed out for a walk. When we got back, I thought I'd let the sprinklers run for another 30 minutes or so and then shut them off.
When I was getting ready for bed later that evening, I looked at my camera feeds and noticed something moving out in the side yard where the hedges are. It suddenly hit me that I had never turned off the sprinklers and they were still running. We got our water bill yesterday. That little senior moment used up 2000 gallons of water over our normal monthly usage. D'oh!! Luckily water is relatively cheap here, so it was just an extra $15 on the bill. My short term memory sucks, though.

per month during the summer months. The city implemented a brutal tiered billing system after a pro-longed drought season a few years ago. During the 6 year drought the city set limited irrigation days, plus asked everyone to conserve water including, “If its yellow, let it mellow.” And we did. City residents came through. I saw a lot of lawns ripped out and replaced with drought resistant plants. Even artificial turf. Good for us. But wait! The city saw their water revenues decline, so they raised the rates! When the drought ended, the high rates remained! What s cash cow. This is what happens when there is no competition.

Doing some clean up of boxes from my parents house. Many old things to come. We will start with a tag I found with this guy on it. Feeling old now?
