But if you ask me we were lucky this time, Those AMG's had more race pace and the only thing that didn't let them overtake BMW's was the circuit layout which doesn't give you much space to overtake.
Sorry but you're so wrong! Look at the lap times and see where BMW are. They're on par with the Mercedes-Benz AMG team, and better than Audi.

Don't forget that this is their 2nd round after 20 years of absence so winning a race at the 2nd round is something beyond expectations.

of course. IMO, they should be even happy with last place since it's their first year experiencing DTM after decades. Winning 2nd race is really great for a team that just recently has joined. But that doesn't mean they don't have room for improvement, and by looking at the last two races, i say they have a lot to do.

It is one thing having one or two fast laps. The AMG's seem to be consistently fast throughout the race. Look at the first race Paffett and Green won by a 20 second gap over 3rd. This weekend if Paffett was able to overtake in the pits, I believe he would have drove away from Spengler. Paffett was right on his rear the entire race. The gap remained 1 second or less, but nowhere to pass. And Audi was having trouble getting temps into their tires all weekend, don't forget they had pole the first race. They just struggled with the cold weather.

True that the Mercedes-Benz AMG has more pace, but not by much. And to consider that even after two races, BMW is closely tailing the AMG teams in terms of points with a chassis older than AMG's is something weird but good for us. I've been an F1 fan for years and conclusions are not that easy. Sometimes things turn out against the strongest teams, so there's nothing certain in motor racing. But it's just the fact that BMW M3 cars are there, awaken, and ready to dominate.

What do you mean older chassis?

The current BMW dtm car is brand new. DTM cars have zero to do with road going vehicles, they are one-off race cars. Benz, Audi, BMW all share the same carbon monocoque. All makes are basically using clean sheet design cars this year, because of new rules.

I am not sure you even know what your talking about.

These cars aren't even manufacturer prototypes. Prototypes would have lots of manufacturer specific technologies but these cars are very strictly specified by DTM. The transmission has no BMW, Audi or MB manufacturer properties as they are built by a third party specified by DTM racing series. All Electronics(ECU) are Bosch and all are identical. The engine all are more or less the same also. The brake system is supplied by a third party and all manufacturers use the same braking system.
All this leads to really lots of wind tunnel testing for extra power and also who has the better drivers.
IMO the touring series races of the past was much more interesting where manufacturers would build cars like the E30 M3 just to race in the series. It was much easier to relate to those cars than these DTM cars.
The only real BMW, Audi or MB parts on these cars are the lights and suspension.
Agree, that's why the DTM race becomes boring if no mistake or accident after the first few laps. Those cars can hardly pass each others unless major mistake made by another diver. The trick is to get good qualifying with leading positions. The cars look good though but personally I would prefer to watch GT and WTCC.
