Plasma is still the way to go . LCD still needs perfecting.
Pioneer Elite if you have the $$$$$$ Panasonic is great bang for the buck. SXRD by Sony is Awesome but you can't hang it on the wall ........ |

Picture quality if set up correctly on the Runco with the scaler is soo much nicer than the Pioneer.
BTW like the B&W's 703's? SG

runco is waaay overpriced. their 65 inch 1080 plasma retails for something ridiculous. its like $20,000. Greeeat purchase even if it goes on sale for 50% off. I'll admit they make great front projectors but too overpriced for what you actually get. so even if money is no object i would not recommend runco and in fact if i remember correctly they were bought out a little while back.

If you are ever able to compare a set up Runco vs. anything, there is not much to compare. You can get a 42-50" plasma with a scaler from 7-12k. If money is no object and you want the best, I and many others would agree you can't beat a Runco. SG

i mostly let you guys go on this board, because it will only turn in to a 25+ on 1 if I speak my mind on this issue. there are a lot of people in this thread that have no idea wtf they are talking about. It has been tested in broad appeal (meaning having people age 10 to 80 look at the television) and people as a vast majority cannot see the difference between 1080p and 720p after 10 feet away on a 50". Back when I was selling TVs, unless the guy was made of money, I did not sell 1080p 40", as you would literally have to be right on top of the television to tell the difference. If you are getting a 60", 1080p makes a world of difference. TO answer your question, if you are thinking about getting a HDTV that ONLY scales to 1080i...pass. 1080i is the oldest resolution in High Def, and nothing (example: Playstation 3, Blu-Ray Players) like to scale to it. 1080p is effectively DOUBLE the rez of 1080i, so it is a big deal. Remember guys, however, that you need a source to play on your brand spanking new TV. Besides next gen DVD, there is NOTHING in 1080p. And remember, the higher resolution your TV, the more your standard def looks like ass... because there is a higher percentage of missing information the graphical processor in the television has to make up. I am a big fan of Pioneer, but they tend to jack up prices on their Elite line for no value proposition to the customer. Panasonic makes a great plasma product. Best bang for your buck... no wonder they are the best selling plasma in the world. Samsung is a good product. I really don't like the bashing of samsung. I find it very funny that people think Samsung make an inferior product than Sony, when Sony buys a lot of screens of Samsung due to lack of supply. Hate to break it to the ignorant, but Samsung's consumer electronics divison (read: take out computers and gaming) has a larger world market share than Sony. Samsung TVs offer you great stats. They have great contrast ratios, good refresh rate, and a good price. They are kind of like Infiniti... great stats on paper... My only problem with Samsung is that the DNiE (Digital Natural Image Enhancement) which is Samsung's Video Processor Engine, does not do as good a job with making your television look better, and does not have many tweeking options. As of right now, we can not supply good enough feeds to supply our TVs with matching resolution. Therefore that video processor is a really big deal. If everything was in 1080p, all TVs would look great!

That is false.

B. 8ms response time was great 3-4 years ago. Samsung just never got the memo. c. Samsung is in the same price line as its direct competition......toshiba, sony, philips, panasonic, lg, jvc, etc... So how is that Samsung has an edge over everyone?

shut up, don't disagree for the sake of disagreeing. You hate Samsung for some reason... good for you. I speak from knowledge.
I am no Samsung fanboy, you are just bitter for some reason. I never said Samsung has an edge over anybody.

Given same models/pricing, Panasonic > Samsung IMO. I honestly think Panasonic makes the best Plasma for its price, just take it off its default Vivid mode.

I remember this thread having the point of helping out the OP. To recap, we have a lot of fans of Pioneer and Fujitsu Panasonic is a safe choice in Plasma. Sharp is good in LCD (but watch that refresh rate as it goes above the 50") Samsung is... going to get me attacked apparently if I say they are anything else other then they are manufactured in Hitler's a$$hole.

Scotty, our brand TOTE VISION has lots of "tweeking options", is 1080p & compatible with older players/lower res rates. I guess we are seeing things eye-to-eye, no? Now you know SOLAR FILM SPECIALIST also distributes great LCD/HDTV technology!

taken from pioneer's website: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...105648,00.html Pixels Another way to compare the two is by looking at their pixel count (pixel is short for "picture elements", the individually addressable areas of light and shadow on your screen). The 720p format creates an image with 720 lines, each with 1280 pixels, so it has a resolution of 1280 x 720. The 1080i format creates an image with 1080 lines, each with 1920 pixels, so its resolution is a higher 1920 x 1080. Denser pixels = a better picture. When you're shopping for a new TV, remember this: at a minimum, an HDTV television-whether it's a projection television, plasma display, or traditional CRT type-must be able to display images at a minimum of 1080i or 720p. A "digital TV" or "digital-ready TV" or "EDTV-ready TV" that doesn't meet this spec cannot deliver HDTV! You would still get the improvement of digital TV over analog, but you wouldn't be ready for HDTV, which is the future of broadcasting. |
