The adults fly away when anybody is near. No attacks.
The cars are parked in the garage most of the time when we are home. |

What do you mean mom/dad fly away when nobody is near? So you only snap the pics when the adults are out partying?

Makes sense, because I have seen little birds tag teaming on a crow air fighting. I guess the crow got too close to the nest?

A pair of birds are harder to train than if they're alone. They're also hard to train if you have a mirror in the cage as well.

It's a sad day for the bird's nest.
The winds were really high (40 to 50 mph). It was enough to knock the flower basket down by tearing the hook out of place. Three of the babies were gone, but one was still there in the basket. It got scared and tried to fly away. It flew across the street and tried to land on a tree branch, but couldn't get it's footing. It fell to the ground and Tracie recovered it. ![]() I hung the basket back up. In this picture you can see where the hook pulled out (marked with the red arrow). That hook had been there for several years. ![]() We put this one baby bird back in the basket. It must be badly frightened by all that happened. Hopefully the parents will return to take care of their last baby. It's hard to imagine the other three will survive (even if they have up to this point). Do finches teach their young how to find food? Or do they know it by instinct alone? If instinct alone, maybe the others will make it if they flew better than this one. |
