Sure. Having a car or two dedicated for pleasure driving is awesome. To quote Ferris Bueller, if you have the means I highly recommend picking one up.

The one thing that's not for me, though, is the "weekday beater" concept. I need my daily driver to not be a steep drop-off from the other cars or else I feel I'm punishing myself. Not criticizing anyone who drives a <$10k car with a M car or Ferrari at home, to each his/her own.

I agree to an extent, but by driving the old Civic I was able to buy a nicer car, also wouldn't want to put out >$100K just always to be driving a nice car. ANd for those of us that drive into a "city", garages, on street parking, no way I'd park my 235i there.

Yeah, totally fair and there are many good reasons to do it, including yours.

I daily drove a Civic too when I got my GT3 back in 2010. Ended up just daily driving the GT3. And then when that got old, I sold the Civic for an E90 M3...which honestly was a bit of a stretch financially so all those good intentions on fiscal responsibility went out the window

yeah i can understand having a weekend car but cant understand the daily being something that is worlds apart. daily needs to be fun too, even if sitting in traffic 90% of the time. more power to you if you can go from one end of the spectrum to the other and be okay with it tho

Just wiped all the pollen off my weekender, even though she lives in the garage. Going topless for a drive now :-)

I use a waterless car wash, love this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I could definitely see having a cheaper car if I had to do public city parking every day for work. I see people parking these super expensive cars on the street in NYC and just can't fathom it. I see people parking by feel on the street. You know you are close enough to the car behind you when you bump into it, then pull forward a bit.

I have weekend and weekday vehicles. For the weekdays, there's a dedicated bad traffic/bad weather/bad parking area vehicle ('17 Tacoma) and then there's the nice weather/nice road conditions vehicle ('19 VW R). For the weekends it's a selection of older/old car hobby vehicles. All have a third pedal...oh wait...that comment is for that other discussion we had awhile back.

I switched from weekday/weekend to just summer/winter. I had a 440i daily driver, C6 Corvette weekend car, and an old truck, but found I wasn't driving the 440i or the C6 enough to justify them, so I sold both and met in the middle with an OG M2 and have my truck for the winter.

No, but if I could, I would have a 2018 Cayman S as a weekender.

I'm all about having the right car for the right job. So when I was looking at a daily, I wanted it to do something that frankly none of my older M's can do: Comfy, must be hyper reliable, have enough tech, cheap parts ect ect... I ended up with a 2016 Toyota Tundra Platinum. Let's be clear, I wouldn't consider this a beater vehicle (although I did have a 97 4Runner before that and it was a tank, paid and sold it for $3k).

Not only is it more truck than I'll never need, I know this thing will last for decades to come assuming gas doesn't become unobtanium. The thing can carry my 2 dogs and camping gear on a trip, has cooled and heated seats, I take it to Lowes all the time (just used to it to haul mulch yesterday) ect ect.. I absolutely love it. I've had it for 2 years and I've had 0 regrets so far.

Having said that, what cars I pick is dependent on weather and situation, rather than what day of the week it is. If they're calling potential hail, you know my BMW's will be tucked away in the garage. But I drove the E36 M3 to work for example, it was a nice way to start the week.

I daily(ish) my e30. It's slow but still a ton of fun yet gets great mileage (FWIW in my mind anything over 20 is 'great') and costs a minimal amount in maintenance. Plus it makes the 6466 N54 feel like even more of a rocketship.

I've actually been putting around in an 08 civic coupe that a friend gave me for the past couple days...it's okay, not sure if I could do it regularly but its free and gets 30+ mpg. GF made a funny comment about how its the first time she's driven with me without us getting any looks or attention from passersby

Yes. You have a daily driver work horse and then the car you pamper and use on nice days or certain occasions.

sort of... the m3 is my "weekend" car i suppose, but more so because its just wasteful and a pain in the ass to daily drive the m3. its no because the m3 is nice.

It is totally and utterly out of control and NOTHING you can do about it. Those costs are with heavy group discounts and heavier discount for being part of the BAR Association. God help those who have no such perks.

So running a 3rd car gets expensive really quickly.
Kind of ironic that its the members of the BAR who drive the price of auto insurance in BC and Ontario through the roof.

In QC, no fault + no lawyers (accident benefits only) = cheapest insurance in the country....

OP it seems you didnt really understand that those people who say weekend car, happen to commute Mon-Fri. In essence it means not a daily driver./commuter.

So you are asking do people have daily drivers and 2nd cars and are amazed that they do? I guess I dont even understand why this is confusing to you.

My wife and I both work from home.

We had 4 cars before the pandemic, now we "only" have 3. We technically could get by on only 1 car since even if my wife's does go back to the office, I'll still be working from home for the foreseeable future.

My two M3s and an SUV. I find whatever reason I can to drive the M3s. Took one to the track a few weeks ago and plan to do some more. Otherwise I have to put the battery tender on when I cant drive them.

I've usually always have a second car around, so I would say yes people do.
