Charging infrastructure is what Tesla has in spades.
We're a 2 car family and when we buy an EV we expect to never charge it away from home. In addition we likely drive on a trip over 250 miles a couple of times a year. Same reason we own two sedans when occasionally I need a truck/SUV (I prefer to rent something I rarely want/need). With currently owning 3 ICE's I am not too worried about what we will do when they are all EV's.

Like comparing every other vehicle it depends on what is important to you. Tesla definitely wins when it comes to charging options.

You mention these "multiple options" for charging a Tesla separately from the Tesla Supercharger. I am very curious what these "multiple options" are and - most importantly - why they will charge a Model Y with no problem, but cannot charge an i3.

I ask because, other than Tesla's own Superchargers, I've never heard of nor seen any EV charger that was Tesla-specific.
I haven’t seen it either but apparently at a number of the campus parking lots her university has installed the Tesla Wall connectors - anywhere from 1-3 chargers.

But, yes...if driving across the country is something you have to do for whatever reason, then maybe an EV is not the right choice.
Millions of people road trip across the US every year and they are not all inbreds. Why do you think there are nice hotels at most major interstate hubs and not just at airports. There are also nice hotels and motels all over the US that are not on major interstates. Go out to any National Park and ask. Most people will tell you they are on an extended road trip.

That to me is a bigger concern, although I know plenty of people rely solely on supercharging. For me personally one of the things I like MOST is that I always have a full "tank". I never have to deal with going to charge, it's like having my own personal full service gas station at home. It's always charged when I need it and I never need to go further than it's range.

Not exactly "plug-n-play", but not too big a deal. Still, obviously that still doesn't give her access to the Tesla Supercharger.

As an aside, if I were paying tuition to that school, I'd raise hell about this situation with proprietary chargers in public parking facilities.
