u really can't go wrong with a 8GB 3G for $200. For that price it doesn't force people to switch networks just to get phone support/warranty like a $500 locked iPhone would have. For $200 + unlock for your own network, and click away. Break...buy another and sell for parts! Apple has made the iPhone worth buying for non AT&T customers brand new now.

I'm just waiting for the suckers who really want to upgrade to the 3G iPhone and they want to sell their existing 1st gen iPhone. But in order to get anything for it, they need to sell it for less than what Apple/AT&T is now planning on selling the new phones for (at least half the price of what they paid).

So I forsee used 8gb 1st ver iPhones selling for well under $199 (probably closer to $100), otherwise any smart person will just wait and get the newer, better iPhone. That's when I'll pick up an iPhone and unlock it and use with my T-mobile prepaid SIM card

Quick question: if you have an unlocked 1st gen iPhone right now, and you're using T-mobile or some other carrier with a calling plan only (no data plan), can you still browse the internet and do everything else as you normally would with a data plan, through WiFi on the unlocked phone?

yes of course...but some features (like email and weather) automatically downloads data periodically (you can set email not to though), so you might still run the risk of racking up data charges.

Cool, I figured so but just wanted to confirm. I won't care about email or weather since my T-mobile SIM card is on a prepaid calling plan with no data so it won't allow for any email anyways (not that I would since my Blackberry is used for my email).

You just need to turn off EDGE roaming and there will be no data charges.

HOLY CRAP! As soon as I read this post I listed my iPhone for sale on ebay for $280 BIN and I sold it in 10 minutes!!! I still haven't received the payment so I'll keep you posted, but now I have a little bit of a problem that maybe some of you can help me out with.

My iPhone was my only "smart phone" so I can't just pop out my SIM card from that phone and use it in another phone in the mean time. I do however have a ton of spare older phones that aren't smart phones, as well as an old non-smart phone SIM card with the same # on it that I currently have. How can I go about using my old SIM card with an old non-smart phone in the mean time? Can I just call up AT&T and tell them that I broke my current phone? Also, I shouldn't include my SIM card from the iPhone sale, right? I have no idea how the details work with cell phones so if anyone can help me out here I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I think you can just plug in your SIM to your other phones with no problem, you just lose some functionality.

no online order only in store, phone must be activated at the store no more in home activation, and when they start selling it online if is not active with in 30 days there are going to be penalty fees.

so is not going to be as easy to get one like the original iphone was.

I'm glad that I'm actually an AT&T customer but I don't want to wait in line for an iphone

The problem is that my iPhone has a different SIM card then my old regular phones so I'm not sure what to do. I guess I'll call up AT&T tomorrow and tell them that I broke my iPhone and I want to just use an old phone instead for the time being.

The contract for the new phone overwrites the old 2 year contract, so you go 2 from the date you sign the new one, not the remainder of the old one plus 2 more. Anyhow, the early termination fees are self-reducing and soon to be illegal. FCC is getting pissed about them + lots of class-action suits over them.

All SIM cards are the same. Pop the SIM out of the iPhone, put it into any old phone you have, use it as you did your iPhone. All your subscriber info is on the card. Swapping the card into different phones makes the phone it's in "your" phone.

Finnaly Canada is getting the iphone and we can get it in White too , perfect it will match my car :P , we have to wait for July 11 to get one , im sure data will cost and arm and leg , not like in the U.S, and 199 thats cheap i paid 600 for mine it lasted 7 months and then took a big fart , now its a paperweight maybe good for parts , apple wouldnt support it in Canada , this is great news , now only if they come out with a 50/month unlimited data plan i would be laughing
