My brother when off duty wants nothing to do or show what he does as a career. I see all the rookie guys wearing their shirts and hats with the insignia alongside their badge on their belt....and even their duty weapon sometimes.
My brother off duty looks nothing like a LEO. Plus he doesn't talk about it. You get around the "newbies"....and the conversation is all about their work.

Just to let you know, that this is a habit also into other more or less important jobs; coming back from last simulator training by staff bus to the airport, a horde of very young training pilots were also with us. The way they'd talked were like "we have all at least 20000FH accomplished and nothing could bother us". Actually they are not even allowed to fly as co-pilots but students listen and learn at the 3rd occupant seats. I won't know what stories they tell at home and friends, but this show-off were embarrassing.

Ever pull a vehicle over only to find out the driver was sitting on the right side (ie older Skyline) AFTER approaching on the left side?
Also, how often do you see driver/passenger switch seats quickly after being pulled over? |

As far as switching seats..... ....that's more rare than it is common. Switching contraband is much more common. |

Funny story, my wife and I were in the finger lakes a few years ago. We were driving back to our Airbnb from Watkins Glen. We'd stopped at a winery for a tasting and my wife got a "wine slushy" to go.....tacky I know. Anyway, we were in the Z4MC and stuck in a line of traffic behind some old git doing about 40 for miles.....I finally get an opening an shoot past him along with about 4 other sports cars behind me, my luck a NY State Trooper is sitting in a driveway and out he comes. He ends up a ways back and had to play catch up. I dumped my speed when I say him coming out because I knew he had me. When he got his chance he blew past the cars behind me and then bubbled me.....my wife says "should I throw my drink out the window".....I love her, so I sad not a great idea because you can't know how much the cops love seeing shit going out the window on a traffic stop. 88 in a 50, a nice young Trooper, very polite. We came to an agreement that if I slowed down a bit he wouldn't charge me. My wife sat there with her slurpy not saying much. The thin blue line. |

Funny thing about people tossing stuff/contraband out of car windows..... ...we can log/geotag the location with the push of a button, and go back and retrieve it based on coordinates. |

I had something happen earlier, and I wonder if it would be considered assault. It's a bit long, sorry.
It started when both the girl in front of me, and myself picked the wrong lane at the stoplight. The people in front of both of us pulled off very slowly, and kept driving that way, so I put on my blinker (I know, I break the BMW mold here), and started to go around the girl in front when she put on her blinker and turned in front of me at the very same time. No big deal, it happens constantly. The next stoplight is the same. We both pick the wrong lane again, and the same thing happens, we pull off, I put on my blinker, wait a few seconds to see what she is going to do, and when she doesn't do anything I start to go around, at which point she puts on her blinker and almost turns into me (just not paying attention). After seeing me, she turns back into her lane, I swerve a bit, and accelerate to 50 in a 45 pretty quickly (it's normal for me to go 5 mph above the speed limit in almost all cases as I'd rather move through traffic than with it). Now this was uphill, so it probably seemed like I shot off like a rocket, and well, I kinda did since I didn't want to be anywhere near the girl I just passed, but inevitably everyone caught me way before the next light (isn't it strange how everyone drives slowly until you start driving quickly, then they all drive faster than you to catch up?). Anyway, I pulled into Best Buy before reaching the 3rd light, got out, opened my trunk, and this black SUV pulls up beside me and rolls down the window. The guy yells out to me "people like you should use the bus", and something else I don't recall. He said that I almost hit a car twice, and was driving reckless. I just looked at him with a bit of a blank stare, like you do when those UFC scores come up like it was a 26/30 round when it was clearly a 29/30, and said "ok." He said a few more things, sternly, and I just said "whatever" and walked off, as from my perspective I didn't do anything wrong except a bit of speeding, but I could see how, if he didn't see it from my perspective, that he might think I had been driving aggressively. So my question is; is that considered assault when someone follows you, then pulls up beside you and scolds you for your driving when you're parked? Or must they get out of the car and walk towards you? Or can you pull up beside anyone you want that is parked, roll down your window, and start telling them they don't know how to drive? |

Oh i've got a homeless question. So it's a bit of an issue with these "walking dead." Especially in the city, they can often be yelling, starting shit, and whatnot, but what can you really do about them? Have you ever been instructed to deal with them differently due to their mental issues or because sending them to jail would be a waste?
For example, i see a lot of these lot in the subway, sleeping in a train or just wandering around like walking dead, and i know damn well they aint got no ticket but the cops don't seem concerned. |

I was at that time into a very good shape and had those two young mavericks with the bless of the youth, that the world couldn't be larger for them. As they continued to refuse to pay proper attention to the lesson, I'd stopped and asked them to step into the ring with me. To shorten this: They were cuffed before they'd really realized this. Several years later I got pulled over for a routine check, the officer looked into my car and recognizes me immediately as the guy who had pinned him and his former mate. As he'd asked for papers, I twinkled once and reasked him to got pinned again, then handed over my papers. He just smiled and let me go then.

It is in some jurisdictions. Ontario's Highway Traffic Act, states "no person shall use high-beam headlamps that produce alternating flashes of white light on any vehicle" other than an emergency vehicle.

Like my colleague stated, in some jurisdictions it is. It's even illegal to use your horn for any purpose(s) other than for safety reasons (...27001 CVC). Petty, but it's a reason to effect a traffic stop and investigate.
