Centralia PA.

I thought silent hill was a pretty decent horror flick - especially since it's based on a video game.

Yup, I google mapped it, can't believe there are only 2-5 ppl there...how can they survive w/o any real services presumably? Freaky stuff doing the street view and seeing that it's basically dead.

Glad to know you thought it was decent, will watch it tonight.

I saw Iron Claw. Goos movie. Super sad, crazy life, and sacrifices.

Tried watching Poor Things today. I left halfway through. It wasn’t for me.

The film itself was good, just a big dragging at some points. The cast was fine for the most part but could have been better.

Warning: Small spoiler alert at the end of my post.

I saw it Saturday at a Windy City BMW CCA private screening. I enjoyed it. I would agree it wasn’t exactly a typical American movie. I felt like it had kind of an art house feel to it. It’s definitely not dialogue heavy.

I knew nothing about Enzo Ferrari so at the beginning of the movie I was kind of surprised and felt like he was quite a cad, but then as the story progressed his personal life made more sense. I can’t see any issue with either Driver or Woodley in the roles. In fact, if I hadn’t seen something prior to seeing the movie that gave me a clue it was Adam Driver playing Ferrari I wouldn’t have realized that’s who it was and even then, because I only caught what I saw about Adam Driver in passing, I wasn’t 100% sure it was him and it wasn’t until the credits at the end I knew for sure. I also looked at photos of Enzo Ferrari and I think Adam Driver favors him a pretty fair amount. Driver is 40 years old. Ferrari was 59 in 1957. side note: I think Enzo is a cool name.

It is so appropriate that Patrick Dempsey is in this movie and playing the role he is in!!!

Spoiler alert:

I’ve always been familiar with the Mille Miglia race, but I’ve never known any details about it, so the crash at the end was a shocker. And even though there wasn’t much gruesomeness shown, just seeing all those people get mowed down was so sad and disturbing. I did some additional reading and discovered it wasn’t the first time a tragedy like that happened. Two years earlier at Le Mans in France a Mercedes crashed into the grandstands and killed 82 spectators and in 1938 a crash similar to the one in the movie also happened during the Mille Miglia that killed almost the same number as in the movie in 1957. It turns out one of the big draws of the Mille Miglia was the ability of the spectators to get up close and personal to the action. Over the Mille Miglia’s 30 year history a total of 56 people were killed. 24 of them drivers and 32 spectators. It was suspended at least once because of the danger to the spectators, but it was brought back by popular demand after just two years. I read one prominent driver from the time said it was the only race he participated in that truly scared him and I know I read of some drivers who refused to participate in it, because they considered it too dangerous.

Another thing I found interesting was how Ferrari was all about the racing and selling production cars was just a way to fund the racing and still today the name Ferrari is synonymous with racing. But Maserati is no longer closely synonymous with racing. At least not in my mind. In my mind I think of them as high-end performance cars. In fact, I had to google to see that they have continued doing at least some racing even into the modern age.

Wife had me watch the first episode of "Slow Horses" on AppleTV.

The first episode was interesting, and I'll be interested to watch the rest of the series.

British (with Gary Oldman heading the cast), and has gotten very positive reviews.

Basically, Oldman's division is where disgraced MI-5 agents who've screwed the pooch end up. Things get interesting from there.

I've posted about this in the Great TV Series thread. It's an excellent series. We just finished season 3 which was the best so for, they shot season 4 at the same time so it should be released soon. Oldman is brilliant in it. Not everyone's cup of tea but if you like British crime shows this is well worth the watch.

Heh-- I didn't even know there was a "Great TV Series" thread, so.... oops?

There are two things that are nagging at me regarding suspension of disbelief though with the first episode.

1. If it's a training exercise, all transmission would probably have been recorded and documented for review and hotwash purposes-- which means that the HR weasel who was running the Op couldn't have thrown the hero under the bus. And? He had a room full of people who were there who would have gone.... "waitaminute, that's not what you said".

2. If the hero HAD buffooned the training scenario that badly and he was such an up and comer, he would have been given additional training and more scenarios. MI5 wouldn't spend a bunch of money training him and running the scenario just to exile him to purgatory on the first mis-step.

I realize that these actions had to happen, or the book and series would be *really* short, but it sort of bugged me last night.

Am about to start the third book in the Slow Horse series, didn't know it was on the "telly". Hoping the TV version is as good as the books, very well done. And you get to learn some new British vocabulary.

I try to park some of my critical thinking when I'm watching anything or I'd lose my mind and never get through anything. All and all it's a pretty decent series.

Just watched this movie and HOLY CRAP what a phenomenal movie... What's absolutely insane to me is that - if this hadn't been based on a true story, I would have thought it was ridiculous "no way that actually happened"... the fact that it actually happened blows my mind. Absolute must watch.

Isn’t this a remake from an 80s film?

Not that I know of... it's an adaptation of a book which was based on actual events in 1972.

One of the spaghetti westerns not directed by Sergio Leone and it shows a bit with Eastwood's character Jed Cooper surviving a lynching then later catching up with the suspects.

The Hedley Lamar scenes from Blazing Saddles, the office scene where he
and Taggart plan the raid on Rock Ridge, and the gallows outside of the window,
are all from Hang'em High.

I will always watch Hang'em High and the Outlaw Josey Wales (well most any
Clint movie).
