Ohio’s median household income is less than the price of the G60 I ordered. So perhaps in order to move them, they have to have a sweet spot. I have a bit of a distorted lense here, being relatively fresh off the West Coast boat and sporting a Bay Area salary in the Midwest. My concern is they might not be willing to have two fully loaded G60s if they fear I could back out of both deals.

I guess I could order my second at a different dealership as SkyKing suggested, if they refuse a second dueling order, and just cancel the second one before it hits production status if the first ever arrives.
Dealerships trade vehicles all the time. And Brokers sell cars across state lines all the time. So if they don't think they can sell your car there, or a sister dealership in Ohio, they can always trade it to a dealership in........ say Chicago, or New York that can move it for a 530iX, or even a 3 series they CAN sell where you live. I think they have some kind of intra dealership messaging board where they can post it.

No, it is not specific to your market that is how dealers do it nationwide. It is a marketing tool for making sales by keeping the price down. We have to keep in mind tat the overwhelming majority of BMW buyers are not forum members or informed liked them. Many will just decide one day to stop by the dealer and buy one. They do not know what the options are, how it can be customized, etc. At that point they either buy the lot vehicle or talked into ordering a better equipped, more expensive model.

You should have no fear about them getting stuck with the vehicles, that is their business. Besides, they probably had no qualms taking extra money off of you. (I don't know your deal so just saying in general).

That does make sense from a marketing standpoint. The thought of making auto purchases without months of research and contemplation, is an alien concept to me. I’d flip out if I had to decide on a car purchase with spontaneity being the primary factor, lol.

But your right, we aren’t the typical auto buyer. I assume far from it. 😅*cough*

I was able to negotiate 7% off of MSRP at the time of order, but clearly it’s profitable to them, so valid statement to be certain on that topic.

I respectfully disagree. Somewhat. When I test drove a 530 and a 540, as well as an Audi A6, they were premium models. They had, either the Executive package, Or Premium package at BMW. At Audi, that was the Prestige package. All except the 530iX were 6 cylinders. There were several trim levels of the cars there. At Audi it was he only V6 Prestige, but they could get me one in a day. Granted this was in Concord, CA. A much higher income area than where Todd lives. So they ordered what they knew they could move. For lower income areas, they will do like you said. They will order the base models and try to upsell if they determine a buyer has more $$ to spend. Same when I purchased in Seattle and San Diego before.

Dealers want to move what they have on hand FIRST. The cars cost them money every day they stay on the lot, They would rather sell a car they have on the lot then place a special order that will take MONTHS to show a profit. Keep in mind, they only make about 5% on a car. There's a higher percentage in back room sales on dealer accessories, warranties etc, than on the car itself. Any discounts they give you on the car is approved already by BMW AG.

AiredaleDad Fingers crossed you don't get a call saying your vehicle got flooded and have to start the whole process over. Have you inquired about how well it is protected from the flooding? Is the sale actually final as you wait for registration -can you back out if it there was flood damage?

It took me months of periodic episodes stalking Audi dealer inventory before I finally saw a vehicle appear on the lot, that had all the packages I wanted at the time; Prestige, Warm Weather and Cold Weather. Of course at that time, I wasn’t aware that ordering one was an option. I literally drove from Mountain View to Livermore Audi, test drove it and left with it the same day. I got a reasonable deal, As they matched the True Car price at the time. The salesman didn’t look really enthusiastic because I think I cut his profit margin, but oh well.

She still looks good after 6 years of garage kept, Ceramic coated, Low mileage life.

Obviously dealers order some loaded models, you need to show those off also. As far as selling lot vehicles versus orders, that is also a dealer strategy, Many will focus on selling custom orders and use the lot for marketing. We saw that shift during COVIID and some continue that way.

I think you are misunderstanding how the pricing and discounts work though, BNWAG or BMWNA have no say in the discounts. Dealers are independent and set their pricing/discount strategy. The invoice is about 6.5% of MSRP but is a meaningless number in regards to what the dealers make on a vehicle since there are holdbacks and bonuses. That is why we routinely see discounts in the 8% - 10% region,

I could never see me operating like that either. I usually read the manual of any that I'm even just thinking about and spend hours on forums, web sites etc.

Pricing is the same way. The reason we see the discounts we do is because 90+% of buyers do not understand how the pricing works and what can a good deal really is. We often mention the discount range that one should shoot for but that range is for a very small consumer group as the rest are paying MSRP or a little under. We shoot for 10% and that is funded by the many getting only 2%.

Mig. Nothing is final until I sign for the car. Although it's paid for to BMW, I still have to accept it. If it gets flooded, I just say order a new one and it will happen. But I did check. My car is in a secure area of the dealership where they put their High Value cars until they can be delivered. It is protected, Indoors, and safe. There was some damage to the front of the dealer where the delivery area is, and they did not prep the car because of the weather. Otherwise I would have gotten it last night. As is, I will wait until Monday.

Other than a vessel that departed on the 25th (which they had been loading prior) there haven’t been any shipments.

I’d be very surprised if it was not on the one leaving on the 9th of November.

Now I'm wondering... So if I have a birthday in early January and I receive my vehicle in December will I have to not only pay for tags and registration in December and then have to renew them in January in less than a month? Is it pro-rated since it would only be a month or less? Anyone know Ohio vehicle registration rules?

I believe that I’ve read that for new cars they will prorate. So you’d pay for December 2024 and all of 2025 at the same time. Your sticker would be for Jan 2026; You could give them a call.

Picked up Thursday evening, the car is amazing on the road and looks sick. 530e G61 M Sport Pro with Veganza Espresso interior and the bronze Shazam accent, tones go together perfectly with the exterior Oxide Grey.

I know I slid in here on a banana peel (swedish expression) and passed you all in the queue, but let me give you a boost and tell you it will be well worth it when it comes. I have an issue with the gas cap not opening, they're gonna replace some sensor, but I honestly don't mind cause I am overwhelmed with how it has made my heart warm again. The iX3 didnt do it for me, but this for sure is making me feel like a teenager again.

Just hang in there

That is a beauty and another one for the espresso crew

When did you order (I tried looking back in the thread) and were there any recall issues initially?

I am hoping to find out this week when my WK36 G61 will be delivered. The dealer gets a tiny bit more detail each week on the universal joint recall. They are now just waiting for a parts order. But apparently once the part comes in they can arrange delivery and just to the swap as part of handover prep - a very small job apparently.

Indeed

Order was placed Friday W37, confirmed Monday W38, came around to go for the Espresso on that Wednesday, wanted to add Lumbar Support on Friday - but it was too late as it had gone into production. Thats the only thing I wanted but didnt get, not that I really need it but its better to have than not to have. But the Sport Seats are really comfy.

Anyway, no recall issues and delivery was initially set to W46, but it flew through the stages and reached me 2 weeks earlier.
But I am in Sweden, so the shipping is not comparable.

Even my seller was surprised and said a lot of other Swedes have actually been waiting longer, so the long wait is more the standard case and not just an outside-Europe-thing.

Best of luck!

Which carrier is leaving on the 9th or 15th? First one I see is the Arc Honor leaving on 11/15, due into Port H on 12/15

There’s not one on the 9th or 15th; perhaps they eliminated it? These things often change it seems.

I see Arc Honor departing on the 18th and Fidelio on the 30th, with arrivals on Dec 15th and 30th respectively.

Holly! Unless I'm in the twilight zone. My vehicle is now in transit.

Not sure from where or what vessel. There isn't a voyage to Baltimore from Bremerhaven until Nov 9th. Unless it took this long to update my garage and it actually made the Oct 25 voyage. Oh that would be awesome! Looks like I'm making a call today to figure that out..
