It definitely is a conversation starter! Did your father change it or it's older than that? I ask because when last names become common people usually picked arabic words. In your case it would have been Ghani or a similar word. There is a good chance that your last name was changed long after that era.

Actually, it dates back past my grandfather and even my grandfathers time. I've gotten curious about it too and have also looked into its origins. Afaik, apparently long ago, last names were picked according to your profession, where your family is from, etc. Im guessing my ancestry did well for themselves hence why they were called that name Lol
