Around here, the 300C and Hummer are more "gangster." A lot less likely you will see a BMW cheese-mobile:

Now, how does BMW get associated with organized crime, such as "gangsters", and at the same time...homeless people???

I don't know how yall do it in Poland, but I think any car in the US can be noted as "gangsta" from bmws, escalades, chrystler 300s, chevys, fords, hondas and even any type of moded bucket ride...but then again, here you'll see someone rollin in an suv with 26's who you'd least expect drivin it (e.g. old people)...so in actuality (IMO at least), I don't think u can label any particular brand car as "gangsta" cause even g's have their own personal preference and budget range. MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE!!! saw that movie last night (private screening) and I was pretty impressed!!! Definitely worth checkin out and I grew up on die cast metal toys! I only wish my 335i could transform into a fully functional vehicle with replaced FP.

Define gangster.

There are different types of gangs, and different types of gangsters. I don't know any gangsters, but from what I have seen in movies, a person in a well organized crime group would probably drive an expensive and exclusive car. If they were in the Italian mafia, it would probably be an Italian brand, like ferrari or maserati. If they were Chinese Triad or Japanese Yakuza members, they may lean towards Mercedes Benz.

On the other hand, street gangsters don't come across that much money. Only the major players see any reasonable money. For these people, commonly desired makes include BMW, Mercedes Benz and Lexus. Since they usually can't afford them, they buy used models years behind. American makes are also heavily popular with street gangsters due to the popularity of hiphop and rap. Kids see the chevy trucks in music videos with 24" wheels on it, and for some reason think that they look great.

Another thing to consider is that the BMW 3 series is the best car in the lowest luxury car price bracket. This means that many people living in the not-so-good parts of town can still afford them. Since the car has a presence in those areas, it's popularity with people from those places is higher.

So yes, the BMW does have some 'gangsta' appeal to it. You can even hear references to it in many gangsta rap songs. But as for gangster appeal, probably not.

Humm kids living in the "not-so-good" parts of town would just take yours at a stop light and laugh at how you think they can't offord them.

Seriously, where did you get this information? from The OC or some other TV show?
I used to live in that part of town and it seems to me you guys take what you see in music videos and movies for the thruth. What a sad shame.

I've just wanted to say that here in Poland we got stereotype that if you drive BMW you're or mafia member or poser. I wonder if it is the same somewhere else. In US there's a lot of cars which looks like "designed by mafia for mafia".

You might want to read the original quote a second time.

I guess the gangsters can't get any Cadillacs or Lincolns over there. But seriously, because of Hollywood, people in the US tend to associate gangsters with big Cadillacs and Lincolns. Who knows what they really drive. There aren't any real gangsters where I live.

In the US, people generally tend to associate BMWs with young urban professionals (yuppies). That is the most common stereotype.

My point is, It depends on the gangsta culture what the term "gangsta ride" is.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jaguar. That car company is one of the top gangster cars in my opinion. Especially the XJ. Popular among drug dealers. If they cant afford much they will be driving around an old model. If they have somehow came across a ton of money they will be driving something like a Bentley or a Rolls Royce. I have never really associated BMW with gangsters. They'd take a Mercedes over a BMW.

Cool

a bmw would be more of a high profile gangster as opposed to a street gangster that could probably not afford a bmw.

There are lot of reasons to not live in Poland - that's for sure. Our new government suck, lots of people sucks and live is really hard sometimes. But I really do love my homeland no matter how. You may consider this as a stupid pride, but I can't do anything about it. I feel shame very often when I see those govern idiots in TV but governments changes and there's always hope for better times. I really adore US democracy. But you've always been a democratic country. For us Poles democracy is something new - we still learn it. We have no country for 123 years! So Zeroday - there are more than 3458372183764 reasons to not live in Poland but I don't care (even if BMW is not accepted car for everyone).
