That sucks in every aspect. Coming from an Evo this is nothing new to me though. This type of stuff happens just about weekly over there.
People tell the young people on the forum to slow down and be careful, Young people tell the old people to stop profiling not all teens are like that, insurance statistics are discussed, arguing ensues, repeat. It sucks but, people don't learn until happens to them or someone they are close to. There was a good thread about this on the Evo forum I'll see if I can find it. Edit: here it is http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=248770 Last edited by hotrod2448; 07-11-2007 at 12:58 PM.. |

i saw this article early this morning, and i wanted to post it up.
but i didn't, because i knew it would lead to another pointless argument between young vs. old drivers. so, to avoid all this, RIP to the person killed. my opinion, tougher requirements and tests for drivers licence are needed....for all ages.

ok you got me on my "vague" generalization of ppl tinting their cars below the legal limit and whatnot, but its not like im the only one who does it? even my parents tint their cars below 28% level (florida legal limit) flame away once again

The truly unfortunate part of all this is the victims family. No amount of money or minor sentence given to the kid will make up for the family loss. For once I would like to see the parents held criminally responsible for their kids actions. Being civilly responsible for their kids doesnt make parents these days raise their kids any better. If the parents faced jail time for their teenagers poor actions we would see some real parenting. That would probably mean a lot less 16 year olds in high performance cars. - end rant - |

My guess is parents who can afford to put a 16 year old behind the wheel of a brand new BMW and insure it for him won't be financially impacted enough to even feel it, and the kid will get another car once the punishment phase is over.

The speeder will be impacted for life as he should be. His parents will likely lose hundreds of thousands keeping there kid from being locked up till he is 21. That's to small a price for what the kid did IMO.
The reason 16 year old kids are not very good drivers has nothing to do with age, it has to do with experience. It's like anything else... do it more, you get better. Anyone that has low hours behind the wheel is in general a poor driver in comparison to someone with high hours behind the wheel. Young driver have been arguing this point since I was growing up in the 80's, but it's not till you are older that you can see the truth behind what I say. Giving hi performance cars to low performance drivers of any age is not wise.

Nope, parents just shouldn't be buying their kids sports cars. Give them nice reliable honda civic or something similar. A 16 year old kid does not need (and isn't likely able to handle) a 300hp car. Hell, kids should be so lucky to get something like a civic, that would have been a huge upgrade for me at the age of 16... and I still had to pay for my shit.
