You are right--I test drove one of the new SI coupes, and it was a little rocket. It felt light and very fast--now, I have no idea how it would stack up to an M6, but as many people know, it does not take a lot of money to really soup up some of these smaller Japanese cars.

civic si with 50shot and an intake(Without ecu reflash i.e hondata) will probably trap somewhere around 98mph according to that data above. Thats like 10mph slower than M6. You would think 10mph is nothing, but try to see the difference between 2 cars going 20mph and 30mph.

On the other hand the M6 has the SMG gearbox which makes the shifts faster and more reliable. In my opinion it is sad that BMW has made an M car that heavy. It is almost as heavy as an X5 3.0 (I know the x5 is heavier but way to close). |

why only track? cars like M6, you better damn well know how to drive it correctly. cars like honda civic Si, it is very easy to drive. with amature driving skills, only advantage you are going to have at the track is the straight way.

Track as in drag strip. Its called Moroso Moto Park. I dont street race, so id only do it at a drag stip because it wouldnt be on a real car track like Leguna Seca, because I dont even know if we have one of those/ I dont know how to track a car.

I bought an 07 Si to drive while I wait for my ED in July. It is NOT fast in a straight line. For the life of me I can't figure out why people drag race this car. Out of the box the Si (with good pads and brake fluid) is very competent on a track. Depending on the track, the M6 would be much faster and better on a road course, especially after a few laps when the Civic's stock brakes would be totally gone. But how fast a car goes on a track usually comes down to the driver. At my 2 track days with the Civic I passed many cars that are much faster than the Civic, but were being driven by people who were unable/unwilling to push their cars that hard.
One of the main limiting factors for the Si in a drag race is fwd...even stock it is nearly impossible to get power to the ground from a stop. So with just more power and no suspension and tires I seriously doubt that the Si you described would actually be that much quicker than stock. Plus the Si has a 2,000 rpm power band (6,000-8,000) as opposed to the M6 which has a much broader power band. But I agree with another poster...in the end it is still a Civic that you beat. |

I never said I was going to brag about beating a civic? I just asked how the race would be because I thought it would be alot closer then what all my friends are telling me/ you guys are telling me. To be honest, I have no clue what a 75 shot of NOS does HP/Time wise to a car, so I was going on a guess to think he would be able to catch up/ make it close.

Finally some logic!! The other limiting factor for the Si is it is a 4 banger. NOS alone is not going to give the power a 4 banger needs. To get a Civic into the speeds to beat the M6, the Civic needs a big honking turbo. So a warning to M6 owners, if you see a Civic with big drag slicks and big circular hole in the bumper cap where you see impeller blades.....be worried.....

Is the Civic faster than a Cayman S? NO WAY. Is a Civic faster than a M6? NO WAY. Who would win in a race? It could very well come down to the respective drivers! Really, neither the Civic nor the M6 are intended to drag race. Try this...agree to the race (under safe, legal conditions only), but make the race starting from 100 up to V max. No amount of nitrous or intake is going to help the Civic enough. My personal experience with the Civic on a high speed track (Willow Springs International Raceway) is that it is just geared wrong for the high end. 4th runs out at about 102 and then 5th sends the revs too far from the power peak. Honda geared the car to get out of the hole decently with a motor with no low end. Remember...that car may have 197 hp, but it only has 138 lb/ft torque, and that peak is around 6,100 RPM. I imagine that drag racing the Civic requires unbelievable talent...too few RPM's and the car bogs. Too many and the front tires go up in smoke. I suspect the gap between too many and too few is pretty narrow. I personally have never tried it because I don't see the point of drag racing. |
