a reason why i love this forum.. multiculture.. in Cyprus we never take our shoes off either its our house or someone elses.. matter of fact if someone came into our house and took his shoes off we probably get offended because he was running around with his socks, or make a comment about taking off his smelly shoes .

I believe its more of a culture thing than personal hygiene.. it never even crossed my mind in taking my shoes off in someone elses house..

Shoes stay on in my house.

I always ask my hosts if they want my shoes off though.

I can't recall any of my American friends' families having this tradition, however; every Asian friend's home I went into had the shoes off thing. It doesn't bother me either way

shoes off in my house. i don't have to ask people to take their shoes off....i have respectful friends.....so when they come over and see a few pairs by the door they gladly take theirs off. some are asian, some are white...black...doesn't matter. when i do have someone over that's never been to the house before...when they see everyone else taking off their shoes they follow suit.

To those who answered "yes" to the poll, do u also wear shoes on your bed?

Ive seen this too many times on TV/movies where they would just kick up their feet on the bed and just relax...or take off their shoes when they get in bed.

feels weird having shoes on inside a house, be it mine or someone else's. they only stay on when i'm entering a house that looks like a shitstorm.

Always take shoes off right before I come inside. I have a heated garage, and keep the back step clean so I don't walk in a bunch of dirt with my socks.

Noticed that it keeps all my wood floors on the main level much cleaner, and I just keep a shitty/old pair of shoes by my wood shop in the basement and doors to the backyard so I don't have to wander to find any shoes.

I wouldn't do anything else again! It heats the room, and keeps my feet warm all day with just some thin socks. WELL worth the cost!

I have heaters in the celing of the bathrooms so when Im getting ready in the AM it heats the whole room up without heating the rest of the house (which I love) but I like I said the downstairs floors are ice cold in winter since there's only carpet upstairs. Maybe if I just eat a cheese burger I wouldnt be so cold lol

This is spot on. The respectful thing to do is take your shoes off when going to someone's house.

However, as of late... I haven't been simply because my shoe collection has grown and I like to keep them all upstairs in my room. It seems like If I take them off at the entry way like I used to, I just accumulate a huge friggin pile.

Once snow becomes a frequent thing though, I will have to revert back to my old habits simply because its a necessity.
This is spot on as well. My parents flip when they see a bunch of shoes by the door. So I just wear them until I get to my room, then I take them off.

In my own house no, but with friends over, or a dinner, I put shoes on (even my own house). It is pretty lame having people over and you are in socks.

People spit, piss, throw garbage, gum, etc. on the ground. Then you take your dirty shoes and tramp through someone else' house? I would think you should always take them off at least at other peoples houses. Its respectful!
+1

I always take off my shoes at my house and other peoples houses.
