As a former depression sufferer (yay for Zoloft!), I'm all for the idea of having her get some help.

With some people though, it takes more than just asking to have it done. I'd take the route of sitting down with her, and telling her that you love her, and are really concerned. Go with that, and then that she NEEDS to get help. If she doesn't, you don't see how things can continue.

That solves 2 things. 1) if she DOES get help, and turns around, then you win, and keep her in your life, and 2) if she DOESN'T, it gives you an exit strategy, in that you cannot be around someone who is so negative.

Look at it this way, she asked you what she could change about herself. This is it.

Sorry had to do it, you had to know this was coming some time or another.

But on a more serious note this is a hard call man, I really dont know what i would do if i was in this position. On one hand you really love her, but on the other is this really something you can deal with your entire life. I say if you can et her to talk to you, have her over and have just a night in. Fix her dinner and what not and just sit down and talk. Lay it out for her exactly and tell her how you feel and what needs to be resolved for this to continue working. Tell her to tell you her side of it to, what she is looking to get out of this relationship, where she sees the relationship progressing to a few years down the road, discuss marriage and if thats what shes looking for...cover all the bases until everything is resolved. I had a girlfriend I had to walk on eggshells around in terms of what to say to her. After a year and a half I couldn't take it anymore. Best thing we did was break up. That is no way to live. Life is too short to be annoyed to that point.

yea i upgraded to a secure girlfriend. 4 years... no fighting... its absolutely perfect and so easy its scary.

anyway... sometimes things just werent meant to be and thats perfectly ok. you just need a new girlfriend. you can love and care as much as you want but sometimes some people just wont change. just have to come to terms with that and move on. the sooner you move on the sooner you will find someone that fits you like a glove.. like me!
