WTF is durian?
Never heard of it and I love fruits... Asian pears are nice, Mexican mango's (if you can call them exotic), pineapple (more tropical than exotic), persimmon is nice when really ripe... And of course how can I forget, THE MACKINAW PEACHES JERRY, THE MACKINAW PEACHES!!!!! It's like a circus in your mouth... Hahahaha

I love ACAI. I also like dragon fruit and asian guava (used to have a tree back in asia and the neighbors would come over and ask to pick some all the time). I also love that green fruit next to the dragon fruit pictured below. Rambutan is also very good (and yes they do kinda look like nuts).

Rambutan. I used to eat those all the time in Asia. The inside looks kinda like longan/litchi but it takes different.
That green fruit next to the dragon fruit is called "custard apple." Everything I listed I used to eat a lot as a kid. Those are truly "exotic" because you can't really get them here. Most of them are imported. The Caribbean nations usually have those. Mangosteen is good too. |

Mangosteen is delicious and difficult to grow here in the states.

Hands down, Mangosteen and Rambutan are my two favorite exotic fruits. I ate a bushel of each per day while in south east asia.
Durian is by far the most disgusting thing to grow on the planet earth. It smells like rotten eggs inside year old sweaty gym socks. Its consistency is reminiscent of mucus. There is absolutely nothing palatable about the Durian. Someone bought Durian cookies while we were on a 3 hour bus ride. After opening the vacuum sealed package, the entire bus erupted and people were gagging. It was double bagged and handed to the first person we saw on the side of the road. I will never forget that day. I will never forgive the durian. |
