ehh.. Don't be so hasty. Black case or not, I wouldn't put it past Rolex (or most other swiss "luxury" manufacturers) to NOT make nasty diamond special editions. Anything to make a buck.

B&R even got in the game with this piece of hotness last year.

You forgot to put a picture of the leopard daytona, probably the ugliest Rolex. Those watches never sell though, so it doesn't really bring in much profit for them. It's just to diversify and pick up a few sales here and there.

I think the only Rolex I'd own is the DSSD. To me its the only one that looks right on my wrist because of its size... and even that isn't ideal because the band is a little too narrow for the case.

If they made a 43-44mm submariner I'd be all over it I think.

I'm not the littlest dude out there and 40mm is just a bit to tiny on my wrist.

And yes... I know Rolex isn't worried about profits. They sent over 900,000 movements to COSC last year for certification. They're doing just fine.

What I'm not sure is whether it's a late Z, M or V serial. One of those 3, because of the ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX on the rehaut.

I've heard a few people say they wished the SDDS would have a wider bracelet to better suit the case. I found it looked fine though, I guess its personal opinion. Nice watch nonetheless though!

I've got an Aerospace. It's all titanium so no weight issue. Only think I don't like is the crown. Its a single that does everything based on the speed you spin it. Faster sets hours, slower minutes. It becomes a real pain in the ass when I land in a different time zone. Otherwise it was a good choice. This thread has me itching to shop around now...

What exactly is the point of a very expensive watch? Showing off your wealth?

Def get an auto Breitling! I had a Colt Ocean, wore it everyday for 7 years, and then when I traded it in for my Super Avenger the store gave me $900 MORE than what I paid for it 7 years ago! And on top of that they still discounted my new watch about 22%. Their price point goes up every year so buy one ASAP and "watch" the money roll in!

Quit trolling man.

People are either into it, or they aren't... and the people that aren't won't ever be able to be convinced otherwise.

Save the comments about telling time off of your cell phone, or your Timex... We know they do it. We know they do it better, and we know that they do it for less money.

Furthermore your effort to obviously incite a debate over it is ridiculous considering you drive a BMW.

I never understood it as a kid. My dad has a watch collection that could buy several Alpina B7's. Growing up i would get pissed with him spending as much money as a car on a stupid watch, never made any sense. Then i understood the beauty, the level of quality and craftsmanship, and had an appriciation of these watches after a while because they were all so impressive.

for most people, its because they love the watch AND can afford it, so why not buy it? if you could get an aston wouldnt you if you could afford it?

By the way, every time i see your name, my imagination puts an l in spiff so i always think im seeing spaceman spliff lol (spliff is what we call a big smoke )

Nice choice, man. I've gotten a lot of compliments on my Chronomat Evolution (white face). Get it and enjoy it.

For those who are wondering, watches in this price range are jewelry. Any 5 dollar digital piece of silicon can be programmed to tell time, whereas these are taken to an art form of mechanics.

I think what it really comes down to is sort of the same principles that apply to cars. Probably the reason so many of us bought BMW's in the first place. They are great cars, they retain their value, and they are somewhat prestigious. It's a measure of success. Citizen & Seiko (owns Citizen) are great watches. Do they have the prestige or many hours of craftsmanship of a Rolex? No, but they are great watches. Honda makes some great cars too. A civic is a bargin, it retains good value and will get you where you need to go. Would I buy a civic? No, because I recognize the quality and enjoy driving the european brands. With that said, for what i paid for my 1st rolex, you could buy about 10 really nice citizens, or probably about 100 timex watches (seriously). My point i,s going that route would obviosuly keep you in a new watch a lot longer, but it's all in personal preference.

One other thought, Movado makes some very nice timepieces. Most of their watches are quartz and have swiss ETA movements. You can pick one up for $1000 or less, they have some appeal to them, they are stylish, and prestigious. I have owned several and still have some today. Just another option.
