Nice job. But I think all of the pictures are too bright. The top of the cars are washed out. Maybe you should try holding a remote flash from the host car and point it toward your model car? That way you can turn down the exposure a bit?

p.s. - I thought you shot these with another car. But anyways, you get the idea. What shutter speed are you shooting at?

The only solution is getting a darker ND filter (is there one much darker than 8x?) or shooting when it's darker outside. These are 4-8 second exposures to blur the background.

And I could be wrong, but I don't think you can really create an HDR image from a rig shoot.

Do it using single file conversion on Photomatix. 80% of my HDR photos are made with just one RAW.

That's not really HDR though. How can I gain pixel data that doesn't exist? The blown out areas are pretty much white.

A couple hundred at the most. The most expensive piece was the magic arm and that was around $140 or so: http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-143R...9865890&sr=8-8. The actual piping was just from home depot.

have you attempted this again? You should try doing this inside a lit parking garage.

I did once more (http://www.flickr.com/photos/radiant...7620667245487/), but it was in daylight again. The big issue for me is most of my local friends aren't into cars or photography and taking these photos really is a 2 person job. So I rarely get to practice with the rig. I guess I need to find some photography/car enthusiasts in my area.

Oh yes it is... its just bracketed by the computer instead of by hand. You can do a lot with a RAW image, thats why the file size is so damn big.

It still doesn't take a 0/0/0 or 255/255/255 pixel and bring back the original color. I know you can create an HDR out of 1 image, but it's not nearly as effective as having multiple exposures. Raw files have a lot of data, but they aren't magic.

Cokin P Series ND Graduated filters attached to the lens. Maintains detail in the shadows and prevents blowing out the sky.

Nice pics! You did an awesome job with those photos... rig looks good too, but I wouldn't drag your camera strap like that on the floor, cuz it might get caught on something.

Thanks, but this is an old thread. I've done a few more since then.
