I feel like Sargent was brought up to F1 prematurely. He got enough points after his first year in F2 for a super license, but didn't really perform all that well... He got a ton of points finishing first when three drivers were disqualified in one race alone. He only won one race on merit, Silverstone. And then only had one other podium in Baku. In no other races did he earn a podium.

Similarly Colapinto was just promoted to F2 this year, and has only one sprint race so far. Doesn't look like he did much in F3 either. He looks like he's even less experienced than Sargent was. Seems like Williams is throwing in for a hail mary here, I'm worried it might backfire on them. Sargent has been a hot mess, but is Colapinto going to be any better? Trading a guy with at least some history on these tracks vs a rookie with no experience? And no chance at him getting an F1 seat for 2025. Guess they're hoping he'll just crash less? Cool opportunity for him I guess, but I think they're going to end up hurting him in the end.

Couldn't they have negotiated to bring up Antonelli for the rest of the season?

Now the Europeans are going to claim they are just naturally better at F1 and they gave Americans a fair shot.

Of course there already is an american team active in F1 with american drivers..
Oh wait, skip that last part....

But true, I would've loved to see Andretti enter F1, especially as they also bring a new engine manufacturer.

As for Sargeant....I think he should've been benched after last year.
He's shown no progression, no real performance and a lot of crashes.
Apart from the VER-PER situation at RB, there is no team that has this much quality difference between their two drivers. Not even ALO-STR.

Not naturally better, but the race scene is just more competitive on a younger age I think. They all start competitive karting at a young age.
That clearly makes for better F1 drivers.
Nascar logic not applied of course...

Plus, not enough road courses here....NASCAR is king

That is starting to change as we are getting 2 new road courses where I live attracting BIG money parents and kids. Karting is catching on too with the popularity of Drive to Survive. BUT, it's gonna take a LONG time.

But it's not just race classes. It's the complete scene. The best kart chassis brands are also mainly european (italian) brands (there's 1 aussiebrand that is good I believe).
Just like somehow almost all F1 teams are situated in either the UK or in Italy.
It's just a complete ecosystem build around it.
Even indycar uses dallara chassis, and they are....situated close to Modena

But it's very important to have a Mexican driver. Apparently American owned F1 negotiated with a drinks company to keep him.

Sargeant got WAY more time than he deserved if we’re being honest. I’m surprised he wasn’t gone well before the season even started.

How are English not European? The UK may not be in the EU anymore, geographicly it's still Europe (although, if you would ask the Brits they might not feel the same way )

I was born in England but have grown up in Australia. I still remember the ads here to visit Britain and Europe as a child. Two very distinct destinations.

The weird EU dalliance mixed things up for a while. The absolute train wreck of recent politicians hasn’t helped either. The latest one seems borderline insane. But best to avoid that topic.

Maybe it’s generational but I’ve never considered Britain as part of Europe. My Grandad would roll over in his grave at the thought of it. 😎

I wonder how the Irish look at this.
I frequently deal with the British as they're my main trading partner, but I never got the impression that they didn't think of them as european... Sure there's the isles and the mainland....but it's all Europe.
