I'm in Plumbing and HVAC parts and supplies, have been at it since the late 80's and loving it everyday. Sales is more about relationships and service and your service to a customer stands out above all. Price doesn't even come into play when you produce excellent service! I've borrowed supplies from one guy i knew had a lot on hand and driven across town to bring a guy some of them for a job he forgot to get.
Check out how busy all these trades people are these days, and this is the industry to get into IMHO. Ship direct, these guys hate running around looking for reliable parts and supplies. Last edited by HappynHealthy; 03-27-2023 at 12:03 PM.. Reason: Typo |

I kind of got lucky.
I started brokering high-end and exotic cars locally when I was in my early 20s. Got to know a bunch of people by doing that, including the owner of a local automotive group with a Porsche and Maserati store. Fast forward like five years, he got a Bentley franchise and wanted to do Bentley as well as used exotic sales. He reached out to me and asked if I'd come work for them. I was doing group disability claims at the time and leapt at the chance to get out of that. Been here a little over 4 years now. So far, it's been pretty cool. It definitely turns into a grind sometimes, and sometimes I feel burnout setting in, but I can't really think of anything I'd realistically rather be doing. I work with a lot of used Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis, the occasional McLaren, and other cars I'm really passionate about, so it's easy for me to talk about them all day. |

A friend of mine who manages a sales team with Boston Scientific thinks I’m a perfect fit for a big Pharma Sales Co… I’m always willing to have a conversation/interview - as others have pointed out - gotta find the right fit/team/product.
Always saw myself getting back into commercial real estate brokerage - but I’m just not sure that’s the direction I want to go in or not. |

I'll post some random stuff that springs to mind. Shameless plug, but the best way to see it is my Instagram - @classyplasticlumber
The coolest thing we have in the building as of right now. Blu Elettrico, Assetto Fiorano pack, 1,340 miles. I got wheelspin in this thing at 65 mi/h last week - it's so mental. Sold this earlier this month. 2021 Carbon Series with 28 miles. Carbon wheels, titanium lug nuts, titanium exhaust. Probably my favorite thing we've ever had here. Time capsule 993 Turbo S we got traded. 18,3xx miles. Another honorable mention. SLS AMG Black Series that had 1,300 miles. |

Oh my god that 993 Turbo S pic didn't resize. My apologies. Been a while since I've used a vBulletin forum.

I sell money. SoCal-based middle market banker here.
Most of my clients are regional manufacturing companies, multi-unit commercial and/or residential landlords, gas station moguls, suppliers to some other well-known brands, etc. Contrary to the current outlook on banking, I feel like my job is recession-proof. Might be on the sales side, but I started out on the analysis/underwriting side first, which is always something that I can fall back on and is needed more during an economic downturn. |

I'm a huge Ferrari fan, so I tend to mention those when talking about stuff I've sold. We've sold several Ferrari F12berlinettas, several 812 Superfasts, several 488s, an 812 GTS, a 488 Pista, an F8 Tributo, an F8 Spider... I've driven all of them. Took our 488 Pista to a car show a couple of summers ago and ended up leaving behind an '05 - '06 Ford GT. As we turned out onto the main road, I got beside him and we did just a tiny little exhibition pull - that was pretty cool. Hit a bump in the road in the Pista at about 70 mi/h and felt the rear wheels spin up, so I got out of the throttle pretty quickly. He kept going in the GT. In addition, we've sold a handful of McLarens (mostly 720Ss), a couple Huracán Performantes, an Aventador SV coupe, two GT2 RS Weissachs, I recently sold a 992 Turbo S Cabriolet... again, got to drive each one of them. It's been pretty cool. I've also driven things like 918 Spyders, a LaFerrari, a Monza SP2, a 512 TR, a 550 Maranello... I'm sure I'm forgetting some. I was driving the 512 TR when this was taken. |

OT - re: vacuums I'm still using the vacuum, hose, and attachments I bought at cost while working there in 1977. It wasn't until 2017 that it required service (a new motor). It wasn't cheap, but the equipment we sold was commercial quality and made to last.

^this is something I can get behind! I've had several sales jobs over the years. I worked in the investment world selling insurance and investments as a Financial Advisor. I liked helping people, but I didn't find the work compelling or all that interesting. I was more personally interested in helping people get out of debt and start investing. Not much money there though unless you're Dave Ramsey. I wanted a more technical career, so I went back to school for a mechanical engineering degree. Ironically, I've been in sales ever since, which is where I found my niche. I worked as a Field Service Engineer for a water pump company. Great work and I got out of the office a lot which was fun. But the company was awful and I didn't like being on call all the time. I had to go when there was an emergency and I didn't know when I was going to be home. That was tough as my wife works full time as well. Now I work as a Sales Engineer for a renewable energy company. Specifically in biogas. Really rewarding work and it's fascinating. The work is quite technical and the sales process is very long, 6 months to 2 years. Big roller coaster ride though. We hunt big fish, so missing on one project can break our whole year. |

Anyone here who might have contacts in Sales, send me a DM so we can discuss. Im not in a rush, and know it's the holidays, but with our youngest now 6, I have the time to really invest into a sales role. The medical field is my first choice. Not expecting much from this post, but networking is networking . Merry Christmas!

Despite making good money, I left because my side of the business was off the charts stressful. Fast forward to today, entirely different industry, making more money, and stress is fractional. There are so many niche markets just within medical imaging equipment, but then there's all the ancillary items - surgical lights, video integration, anesthesia, filtration... it's a bananas industry. Get to know the industry first and the product last. You sell more speaking their language than you do pushing the latest feature. Nearly every salesperson we had was a technologist, nurse, radiology director, etc. at some point in their career. |
