I used my iBookG3 from 2001 until late last year when the battery finally died. I now use the new MacBook and I plan to keep it for another five to seven years.

Apple stands by their products. the motherboard on my iBook died years after the warranty period expired and they still replaced it for free. I have little doubt that if your battery fails prematurely Apple will take care of it with no cost to you.

That's because the iBook G3's motherboards were troublesome and Apple issued a program for free replacement.

I just bought a 15" unibody in November to replace my first gen MBP.
Don't see myself having a need for 17" ever....

i didn't find it difficult to read at all. you notice the higher res right away but it's in a positive way.

yeah, the matte screen looks just like the prev generation macbooks. the only difference is that it has aluminum bezel around the screen instead of the black-glass one. to me, it looks better than the black one.
