PPF ain't my thing for a lot of reasons, but the bottom of the doors on X5s would be the exception!

I took a pic of EXACTLY where everyone should PPF: right where those mud streaks are! Above the bend line, it's all good:

Washed & waxed with plain ole $10 Turtle Wax Ice Spray Wax.

Everytime I clean 'er up w/ TW spray wax I get compliments and a few days ago a chick chatted me up in the grocery store parking lot. nope, not normal

IME $50 all-in with 2 hours of up front work beats $3,000 ceramic every time. Maintenance washes take about 30 min every 3-4 weeks.

Agree. Over my dead body would I fall for the ceramic trap. My brother just did his own ceramic on his AMG and it worked just fine, but he still prefers using my favorite (Power Lock).

Ooof, that sucks! How bad was the dent and how did the PPF over it look after the dent?

I only have PPF on the front clip (minus the fenders) so the door took a direct hit, as the did the shadowline trim on the rear window.

Oh okay, so just the hood and front bumper. I thought you did the whole car. Thanks for the clarification.

For others with full PPF, has anyone gotten door dings? Will PPF help protect against that?

To be fair, there may have been no damage to the factory paint without the PPF in this situation. It's clear that the surface coating was damaged, but it's not clear that the underlying paint or body panel would have been damaged absent PPF. You would need a control of no-PPF to determine the net benefit.

stealth ppf is thicker than clear coat. if i could hear the 'grind' above the three of us in the car singing above loud music, you best believe the incident would've penetrated below the clear coat and damaged the paint underneath. i never implied the body panel was damaged, but it would've been exposed sans ppf.
