Actually, drivers aren't my problem. The driver situation has eased although it was dicey for a while. It's office people, and not just entry level.

That's great to hear on the driver side for you. My friend is struggling. He had 9 quit within 2 weeks and he's getting applications in but he said the new people just don't produce off the cuff like the experienced guys. He said it takes about 6 weeks for them to get acclimated and their production to meet the more experienced guys. He said a lot of it is signing bonus offers that guys leave, stay that time and then want to come back or are on to the next company offering a signing bonus. |

Our local construction association published the declining numbers in our province, and stated there were over 3k vacancies then with a close to 6k vacancies expected by 2025, in skilled trades. I work in the service sector of the industry and am part of a team involved with recruitment, and we can’t get anyone. That’s with everyone making 6 figures to start, full med/dental, a pension/RRSp, and company truck you take home with all costs covered, and 40 hr weeks. Schools don’t advertise trades like they used too.

Wish I could clone myself. I have been searching for a few mechanics and office positions for a year and am getting more and more disappointed with what I see. I feel like people don't want to work anymore. Even when you offer a better salary than the average in this area. They prefer to get a more relaxed work position where they won't sweat. And in general, many of the candidates are negligent. Doing training every few months is time consuming. At least we get better at it. Thankfully, we have people who tick all the boxes and make sure to keep them happy, but finding new is hard.
