it's a tax on people that are bad at math
there's been discussions about the lottery being a bad thing as too many poor people spend too much money (that they can't afford) on lottery tickets while people with above average money tend to not buy lottery tickets |

Including tax and lump sum, you take home 35.5% of what you win. Figure that out... For the math inclined, multiply the amount of money you would earn by 0.355 and youll figure out what you would take home from the lottery... |

How long does it take to make $2,450,000? Well, the average taxpayer who makes 6 figures pays roughly between 30-40% of earnings on taxes so let's just give the guy a break at just a lowly 30%: with a salary of 150k/year (a lot for the typical American), after taxes, he'll bring home just $105,000 a year. That's 23.3 years of working. Math inclined or not, it's a no-brainer that winning the lotto is still blingin'.

the problem isn't that winning the lottery is small $$$$$$
it's that stupid poor people spend like 20 bucks a week on lottery tickets that they badly need for food, clothing...... the lottery is a drain on the poor |

At least most of the winners are poor people. Most winning tickets are sold from liquor shops in the ghettos. In fact, there are many liquor shops in LA that sold multiple winning jackpot tickets.
