No mine is great.

If that happens though Sony should replace it no problem.

It's a bit more than what you said you wanted to pay but I recommend the Sony Bravia 42". I have the 26" and it's pretty awesome. The Steelers look sooooo good on screen.

40" BRAVIA™ XBR® LCD Flat Panel HDTV
KDL-V40XBR1 $ 3,499.99

Good luck.

how large do you want the tv to be?

You can get a decent quality plasma for the price your looking for, or a larger DLP.

the philips ambilight is 2100ish and the Panasonics are about the same

Are you currently subscribing to HD service? Do you have dvd player that can output better than 480p?

I would get a decent tv that will last a few years and move it to a different room instead of getting one that can last so long.

How big of a screen you should get depends on the size of your room and how far away you will be sitting. I am lucky enough to have a finished basement that I can darken, so I opted for a front projector/movie screen. 110 inches of glorious HD for about $3200 (already had the sound system). Installation was a snap. The Masters was incredible! And football is just unreal.

And for those of you talking about 1080, I am sitting about 13 feet from a 110" 720p image and cannot even see that resolution, so 1080 would do nothing for me. If your looking at a 50 or 60 inch TV, then don't get too carried away spending money on a "perfect" image - you won't be able to see it from across the room. Pay more attention to color quality and viewing angle. Sporting events are broadcast in 720p, which is what 720p was designed for - small things moving quickly. Movies are intented for 1080i, where there's not much movement in the image.

And about DLP, the color wheel on new/better projectors spins much faster now, so the rainbow effect is a thing of the past.
