I've flown in private planes on occasion and I nearly always fly 1st Class. I stopped playing the airline's games of loyalty and just plan in advance which keeps the tickets reasonable.
I do play the loyalty game with hotels because there are so many choices within the respective brands. Hilton is my brand of choice for general travel. In special markets I tend to go higher end as the amenities mean something. I've done helicopter tours and helicopter transfers. After being on the road about 25 years, it's all become a blur.

Wife and i are going to Italy next year. I think we'll take Emirates 1st class. Gotta love that 40sf suite and shower deal.
2 First class tickets = 2018 base 3 series.

Done a flew international vacations via 1st class and some via Business Class.
LAX - NY - Switzerland in first was a trip; service was impeccable SFO - Hong Kong in Business on Cathay Pacific a few times was like 1st class on US based airlines UK - NY - SFO in first class on British Airways was also really nice; forgot which plane but the restroom was huge LAX - Japan and back was awesome in First Class I must say though, after flying high, going back to coach was such a pain. As for lodgings, I sometimes splurge on things when on vacation (within reasons). For example, in Asia we stayed at Intercontinental hotels costing $500-600 a night or at Hyatt Resorts costing $300+ a night. In Europe it’s been mostly AirBnB or lower end Marriotts mainly because we’ Out all the time. Last edited by BMW F22; 12-04-2017 at 09:43 PM.. |

I flew to a job interview once in a private jet. Well, not so much a jet, but a private plane. And not my plane. Just a rental. Ok. It was a Cessna 152. I rented it, flew it to a job interview about 1 hour away (3 hour drive otherwise) and later flew home.
Balling on a budget. |

When visiting Seattle Washington I was a passenger in a 1927 Stearman Biplane sight seeing the city and islands. No meal but the best flight I've ever experienced!

After buying or first BMW (2011 X6 50i, a $160000 car in Aus) our dealer flew myself and a few other customers to Melbourne, then put us in a helicopter for the trip to our accomodation at Phillip Island (race track). I had a 3 bedroom apartment to myself. Spent the night there and had dinner with someone from BMW M. Then spent the next day flogging M cars around the track.
Absolutely epic experience. |

I use to run my business purchases through an AMEX with AA miles. So the only luxury travel I've done is business class on AA. Yes it's much better than coach, however I recall when I was a kid what is now business class was basically what you got in coach back then.
The only benefit worth anything to me is the bigger seat... now would I pay full price for it if I didn't have the miles? Hell no. Worth maybe an extra $100 to me, would push it to $200 if it's a 9+ hour flight. Hotel wise I go decent, not expensive but not a shit hole either. Honestly I don't get a lot of the high end hotels. A lot of them have the same basic room you get anywhere but costs double or triple. Why the fuck would I pay $500/night for a room with the same exact shit I can get at a Marriot or whatever for $150? I actually prefer air bnb type stuff. Rent a big house between a few people. Rented this 3 story cabin in Tennessee last year it was awesome. Every couple had their own room and bath. Place had pool table, theater room, hot tub and ended up costing each person like $75 or something like that for the whole week. Other than that nothing. I'm not a fancy guy and don't like the attention. |

Nice! Turns out everyone has had some pretty epic luxury experiences... I've been on a few fancy yachts because of my rich uncle but yet to have the awesomeness that is a private jet. Hopefully soon! I've been doing a bit of reading on the pricing, and
if you'll look here, it's kinda interesting to see what the fee is spent on (clearance charges, crew, storage costs, fuel, airport fees, airway fees, etc.). But no rush, I'm sure I'll get the chance one day to fly private |
